new build not booting properly :(

yeah you need to youtube for thermal paste and learn all about it

you've screwed up your thermal paste, you should not turn on your machine until you sort this out.
 
Its not likely to be the thermal paste that is causing the problem. The idea of reseating the CPU/cooler is to ensure good contact is achieved. This is the way trouble shooting is. Need to rule out the mostly likely cause of problems. RAM, PSU, graphics card. Do you have another system you can get access to to test some of the other components until you have more thermal paste?

You may need to reset the cmos when you get up and running again. Use the jumper on the motherboard, remove cmos battery and power lead for 10 minutes or so.
 
i dont have another system, well my only other computer is intel and its about 7/8 years old (probably more, thats only how long we've had it for)

And do you think resetting CMOS can get it going ?
 
No, its should only go in the CPU_FAN header and can only go in one direction. The header will have 4 pins and there are guiders if you have a 3 pin fan.
 
ok yeah its in, im sure its the CPU fan, its not spinning at all, i got it working once last night but had no luck since
grr this is such a pain, gonna take it out the case and load the CPU and mobo on a cardboard box like you said earlier, to see if i can get the fan spinning,
if i do this, how do i turn the computer on?
 
Doesn't look like your motherboard has an onboard power/reset buttons so connect them upto the case front panel connectors. I know this can be a real pain and frustrating. Just take your time. Unplug everything and again check for debris in connectors and anything causing short circuits or anything loose. Build it outside of the case with the case next to you to connect up power and reset switches. Take your time with these as they can be quite tricky and very easy to get the wrong way round.

Don't bother removing the stock CPU cooler again and build with one stick of RAM, processor and connect hard drive to the first SATA port. No gfx card or dvd drive. You should leave your PSU in the case and use that to ground yourself.

looking on another site, someone had the exact same problem as me, two people in fact,
One of them RMAd the processor and it worked
the other build it outside the box, it worked, and assumed the screws were short circuiting as he tested it without screws, i willl use my motherboard box
