Hey guys. I was building a system for the Mrs with the following components

Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
**B Grade** Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual.

However when I have it all set up and try to boot up the system it has no post beep however when I take out the ram there is a post beep, constant short beeps. I tried different ram that I know is working however when I did that once again no post beep.

Any thoughts? I have suspicions its the motherboard.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a CMOS reset? It doesn't start up at all in order to access anything.

No it doesn't even get to the bios screen it doesnt post beep with ram in and keeps resetting itself and without ram it keeps beeping until I turn it off

Reset the COS by removing the battery for 10 mins with the mains unplugged or using the CLRCMOS jumper on the motherboard (short the 2 pins together) the manual will show the location of the header.

Try with one memory module only in different slots.

after 7 hours of fiddling with it today I give up, But I will try this tomorrow. I found where this was in the manual. So I'm hoping this works.

Ask OcUK which BIOS your motherboard revision has because it may not be Ivy compatible without the later ones.

Which board revision do you have ? If you look at the bottom left of the board near the pci slots it should say either rev 1.0 or rev 2.0.

Have you tried using one stick at a time in each ram slot?

I will try this now, I'll edit with results in a few minutes.

tried both stick. 1 stick in 1 slot per try. starting with the slot closest to the 24 pin connector (we'll name it one)

stick A in Slot 1 = system hesitated to started and then did, displaying light on the mobo and the internet speaker clicked (not a full post beep, just a click)
Stick A in Slot 2 = same as Slot 1 results
Stick A in Slot 3 = system booted but instantly turned off. CPU fan didn't even gather a full spin
Stick A in slot 4 = same results in slot 3

Stick B in slot 1 = same as stick A in slot 1
stick B in slot 2 = same as stick A in slot 2
stick B in slot 3 = same as stick A in slot 3
stick B in slot 4 = same as stick A in slot 4

+1

pretty sure its this that's the issue,as in current shipped bios wont support ib,and to update the bios youll need a sb cpu

I just sent a Email to OcUk there explaining the situation and a link to this threat so they can see your suggestions.

this makes logical sense. The board say Rev 2.0 (I am unsure whether that is the Bios Version by default)

So You guys have a good idea that it is it the Compatibility with the CPU and Mobo. If this is the case I'll just return the Mobo and get a different one.

Do you know anyone with a SB chip they could lend you, just to update the bios.

Unfortunately not, Most relatives I've upgraded their PCs to Ivy as they just threw money at it.
When buying the parts It didn't even come into my head with Ivy / sandy Compatibility.

would you guys recommend Z77 over H77. I'm trying to save the Mrs as much money as possible. She doesn't have a need to plug in 2 Graphics cards which most Z77 have. Would H77 be just a fine (Im reading that most of have Ivy support)
