New build not working! Help!

make sure the jumper settings on the hdd are correct if it is in fact ide. depending on your configuration, master, slave or cable select. you can update bios later if need be . if also possible , disconnect the hdd fully, and try and boot from the xp cd.

That's weird because both the dvd rom drive, dvd writer and both hard drives are SATA and not IDE. Im confused

Obviously not that then, look at the first bios screen above where you get the error message, what is it listing as your first IDE master ?

is there any chance you can get into the bios ? im thinking that theres a setting to select whether to use ide devices or not.

It's not letting me into the BIOS setup at all even if I press the delete key.

It says exactly this:

"Auto-Detecting SATA 1...ATAPI CD-Rom

Auto-Detecting SATA 2...ATAPI CD-Rom

SATA 2: ATAPI DVD A DH20A1S UX14

SATA 4: Samsung HD502IJ 1AA01109

Auto-detecting USB Mass Storage...

I think you should also put your hard disk in sata slot 1, i heard that somewhere.

Just made one of my hard disks SATA 1 and it boots slightly differently now. The "No IDE Hard Disk detected" has gone and it just displays:

"Chassis intruded!
Fatal Error...System Halted."

When I turn the computer on it beeps once then when I hit the delete key to go into BIOS setup it beeps again (once) and displays the messages.

Would it help if I cleared the CMOS again?

hmm chassis intruded is a wierd one. sounds liek some sort of security feature relating to a chassis alarm as in someone has got inside case. if it is that there must be an option in bios to turn this alarm off.

I had that load of messages when I was messing with an asus mobo a coupla weeks ago. Take out the all the ram sticks and insert just one into the dimm slot nearest the cpu and try and boot again. See if that helps, I've found getting the memory settled into the correct slots generally applies to most mobos.

Phew got things sorted. Thanks for everyones help. I solved it by removing a stick of memory and it allowed me into BIOS setup and boot from the XP disc. If I put the stick of RAM I took out back in will it affect XP in any way as i'm changing a component?

Nope you should have no problems putting that ram back into XP unless something is wrong with the ram..

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. You helped me a lot with your advice and my dad's new PC is working brilliantly right now.

Thanks guys.
