New build problems!

Crashed at the same spot and whilst using the onboard video it has some funky lines across the screen.

I unplugged both the mouse and keyboard, so neither of those.

So, Motherboard or Optical?

Current System Temperature: 33C.
Current CPU Temperature: 39C.

Just to bear in mind that this is the first build i've completed in about 5-6 years, I could have easily overlooked something basic.

No idea what it is though :/

is this a brand new dvd drive?

i only ask because i have seen a couple of cases where brand new drives which have not yet "burned in" or whatever and the windows 7 install is all screwed up - all i did was install from a usb stick and it was fine after that :)

Yeah its a new dvd drive.

I just bought a brand new unopened sata dvdrw from a local store, exact same problem. This has to be a BIOS / motherboard issue.

I just unplugged the system fan and all the front facia cables, still crashed at the same point. I even reset the BIOS to Fail Safe default, same issue.

Unfortunately I don't have any usb flash available, would an iPod or Mobile work?

I gave OcUK, they basically said I need to return the motherboard and/or CPU. Does this sound like the issue?

Sorry to keep posting in this diabolical thread.

Just flashed the bios, still didn't work.

About to try the USB thing, hopefully, if not, RMA :/. Great.

Yeah, mobo RMA sounds right.

Just one quick question. Why would the motherboard only cause the windows install to freeze? Surely if the motherboard was broken, it would crash during POST or while memtest was running.

I can get past the first "windows is loading files" screen and onto the blue / flower background, then it crashes!

By it crashes does it tell you this or just switch off?

I thought this happened to me yesterday. I held down ctrl-alt-delete and it started the install, letting me choose language etc

The screen appears "Starting Windows" with the Windows icon spinning around, then a blue screen with a flower in the background appears, then, absolutely nothing, it just pauses on that screen.

No beeping, no BSOD, no lines/stutters etc, nothing, absolutely nothing.

Edit: After about 2 minutes of doing absolutely nothing, it restarts.
