Hi guys

I am going to purchase and build a new gaming PC to replace my Intel dual core 2.4Ghz CPU with EVGA 8800 GTS AC3 GPU

I am wanting to build a new gaming rig base around new Intel I7 CPU

Budget around £1300, can anyone please recommend which is best kit to purchase.

So many mobo choices, from P67, Z68, X58 and X79, no idea which is which and which one to get, please recommend - dual channel memory or tri channel memory, or quad?

Also, is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit ok for gaming?

Also, I have an OCZ modular 750W power supply that works with my current ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Home MOBO Socket 775, wondering if this will work on new the MOBO

I am not looking to utilise any components from my old PC with the exception of PSU (if poss) and wondered if my current GPU is p to it or needs replacing.

I am going to purchase a retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and this cost is not part of the £1300.00 budget.

Was thinking of Antec 1200 gaming case as my aluminium Thermalkate case is a little short in width for new GTX580 GPU.s

I only need the base unit as have all peripherals, KB, mouse, monitor etc.

Games I want to play maxed out are Skyrim, BF3, Etc, Etc

Kind regards

Paul

Hi there,

For your money what are you after, do you need just a base unit with the operating system? or are you also needing a monitor/keyboard etc?

For a gaming PC a i5 2500K is the CPU to have as the extra features of a i7 aint useful for games - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287

Yep.

Well your current GFX card isnt going to cut it anymore, the difference between the fastest modern cards is rather a lot, something like this,

Keeping your existing PSU and then get all new parts gives you a basket a bit like this,

• Very fast SSD to store the OS and games, 500GB HDD for storage etc
• Gen3 motherboard will take the Ivybridge CPU's when they are released.

Hi Again

Bit confused re: I5 V/s I7

SOme games each one faster in

But what bout BF3 and Skyrim, etc, want it maxed out!!

Paul

The i7 has Hyperthreading and a bit more L3 cache and a slight MHz core advantage, these features are something video/music/CAD creation would take advantage of, games just aren't programed to benefit from these.

There are a few tests of BF3 comparing various CPUs,

The ATI 7970 is the fastest single gpu card at the moment,

do you already have the win7 ultimate or are you looking at buying it?

if you don't already have it then unless you need the extras offered by the ultimate version might be better saving money and getting the home premium or professional(again if you want/need the extras over the home premium edition).

the hard disk in your current pc, is it sata? if so might be worth using it due to the current prices of hard disks.
