Hey people.

Today my new parts arrived for me to upgrade my PC.

Ive been fiddling about for the last hour and Im now posting from it :)

The spec is as follows...

-Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
-MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
-Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
-MSi 5850 Twin Frozr
-Samsung f3 HDD
-Old Faithful Tagan 480w PSU
-Asus Xonar D1

Im fresh into Windows and all seems fine.. I ran the Win Experience Index and scored 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.7.... 5.9 :(

Now one minor, potentially major problem, I just ran WoW and it Bluescreened as soon as I tried to load up the world.

I ran the Memtest on the MSI bios and passed that fine.

Im gonna attempt again now, ill tell you how it goes :)

Ok short update already.

I attempted WoW again and it loaded up, all was looking smooth. Then I flew to a busy city on the game and it froze and stopped responding. Ive closed it, and now Im back on desktop, very weird :(

Have you let windows update run and get the OS "up to spec"? Have you also downloaded and used the latest ATI drivers?

*EDIT* Please don't say BSOD, there is an error code associated with it that helps point to the problem. If the system is automatically restarting with the BSOD you need to change that in the control panel

Hey, thanks for reply.

Windows did its own updates and then asked me to re authenticate it due to hardware change, so that is now done.

Ive just downloaded the latest catalyst drivers. Ill give them a go.

Ive just ran Batman Arkham Asylum and it ran brilliantly with no problems. I didnt play long but it wasnt bad.

Im out of touch with hardware/software really. Can someone recommend me some good Temp monitor program etc.

Thanks

Just retried World of Warcraft and it ran for about 10 seconds then froze again, so I had to exit back to desktop (not responding)

Bit of a puzzler really because Batman ran fine.

Ginger makes a good point that PSU is very borderline. You would ideally want a 500W supply minimum.

Google cpuid. They have a hardware monitor (free version) and the cpu-z program is also worth nabbing.

Is wow hanging before or after the driver update?

I thought my PSU would be questionable, Looks like I might have to invest. Nothing is overclocked on my system and Batman proved no problem, which is odd :(

I played wow on my PC specced in Sig this morning with no issues whatsoever..

Ive tried it twice on this new setup and crashed both times in what seems to be busy areas in the game. I know wow is quite CPU intensive so maybe its straining the PSU, although the windows meter for Memory and Cpu usage doesnt say its getting maxed or anything.

A new psu does make sense, they have a nasty habit of taking components with them when they "pop". I said 500W minimum but if you are buying one you might as well say 600W to be safe and obviously pick a good brand (OCZ, Bequiet, antec etc).

Maybe your wow install is corrupt? Odd that the demo runs, maybe try downloading pcmark/3d mark from the futuremark website to benchmark the system. See if it hangs running that. Much better gauge of the system than the windows experience nonsense

PSU is nowhere near its limit.

That system will be drawing less than 300W on load (Furmark or gaming).

How old is it? Could be that the internals are wearing out (ultimately will need a new PC, just tiring of hearing a load of crap about being near it's limit).

Have you set ram voltage to 1.5v btw?

AMD are recommending 500W themselves, you are still suggesting a new psu as I had already said. I think that is a bit premature, i'm leaning more towards driver or a corrupt installation of wow if another game/demo is running ok.

The OP seems to be trying to run before he can walk so to speak. I would install the new drivers and run the 3dmark program. Let him post back what he finds.

*edit* explain what you mean by upgrade? What is old and what is new? Did you reinstall windows for this mobo? If you didn't that is highly advised. Saying that windows asked to be reauthenticated leads me to think you didn't

I havent adjusted anything in Bios at all , everything is at defaults. Im just looking at CPUz is everything the way it should be? the core speed seems wrong, but Im not used to fancy cpus so I dunno what Im looking for..

Ill download some bench programs Pcmark/3dmark

and admittedly yeah I didnt do a format this time. Ill try a few options then that will be my last choice, I was hoping to avoid backing up my steam folder etc.

I presume he's just done a fresh install on his new build.

I presume you are being facetious, I didn't do a fresh install no, I normally would but I thought id see how Windows 7 fares.

Can anyone explain the cpuz frequency to me, thanks
