Guys been away from the pc building scene for a while now since selling my last project (project yidian )
I am now about to start building my next rig and plan to keep this one for many years, I will be building it from scratch, as the only computer thing I have is an iPad right now so I need everything except a monitor( will be using tv for now), I have a budget of £2600 I plan to build it over 3 months to help spread the cost.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Whats the PC to be used for?

You need a Keyboard/mouse/speakers/OS etc?

If you can start saving money now and buy when you are actually ready, this would be best.

New stuff is coming out, Ivybridge CPU's/Z77 boards/Nvidia 6 series etc.

This. Definitely save and then build at the last possible moment. Research is key.

Thanks for the replies guys , I won't need speakers or o/s it will be mainly used for gaming and watching hd content , research starts here, did not know there is going to be a new nvidia card coming out and what are the new cpu's??? I may find it hard to buy it all together, my plan was to buy the motherboard/CPU and ram last maybe an overclocked bundle??? But I do want a top graphics card :)

Stulid , I like the look of that set up , I'm liking the case, looks better than the 800d I had before , I am not to fussed about the sound card and don't need the operating system....

I wouldn't get a £2600 PC and have onboard sound... But it's up to you. Onboard is much better these days but a sound card is a good buy.

Also would you consider watercooling? You could save some money on the OS (you said you don't need) and the case and go down that route.

I am all for your suggestions..... I want something better than I had last time ( search for project yidian ) and something where I won't have to upgrade for years

I like the second spec you done stulid, but would prefer the obsidian 800D case, I do feel it's a bit ott , for what i want it for ( gaming and films etc ) I just want a system that will handle all the latest and future games with ease with full eye candy on, I will be planning on getting the dell ultrasharp 27 Ips screen a month after I've got my new build , if it will save me money then I'm all for it , would be good to see your choices as I'm no expert....

For gaming and a bit of film watching a i5 2500K is as good as it gets price/performance wise.

Thanks for the quick response, not sure about the 6 series as I'm a bit of a radeon fanboy , I there much difference between the i5 and i7 , noticed only one 7970 in this spec.... Would one be enough, really liked the idea of having two in crossfire

You really don't need to spend £2600 to build a good PC. If it's mainly a gaming PC then you don't need anything more than a 2500K CPU wise. And nearly £500 on a case? You can get a fantastic case for £150. Your money though, so up to you.
