New Build

Check:

Two x 2pin I/O's, not four?

The SuperFlower Leadex 750 Gold is presently available for the same price as the Seasonic. Seasonic is quality as well but the Leadex would look beastly in that case. And I know it's a bit more expensive but this Avexir RAM is better quality and would look very sexy.

YOUR BASKET
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 750W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £99.95
1 x Avexir Core Orange Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U21330904G-2CIO) - Orange Light £79.99

Where will you be mounting the Hydro? And where is the single AF120 fan going?

And just so you know (in case you didn't), there is a cheaper 290 Tri-X now, which just needs overclocking:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-03-40G) £341.99

Thanks, I'll add 2 more cables if that's the case. Nice one on heads up for the GFX Card, how easy would it be to OC it to factory settings (or further) of the one originally in my basket? If it's easy, I don't mind saving a few quid here!

If it's the same card, which it seems to be, should be pretty easy. But I would get written confirmation from OcUK to be sure. Ask in Customer Service section maybe.

Thanks mate - As for the RAM i think ill stick to the original to save costs and i'm not a big fan of lights on parts. Thanks for the heads up though.

"Where will you be mounting the Hydro? And where is the single AF120 fan going?" The Hydro will go where the current exhaust fan is and will act as an exhaust. The single AF120 is going to go in the roof. 140 at the front of the case as intake. Other SP120 for the Hydro, just to add the orange ring for colour purposes.

Right... another final build.... ha. Hopefully all correct now. Only issue is im unsure wether to get H80 over H60. I just hate how fat the H80 rad/fans is. As stated in earlier post the Hydro will go where the current exhaust fan is and will act as an exhaust. The single AF120 is going to go in the roof. 140 at the front of the case as intake. Other SP120 for the Hydro, just to add the orange ring for colour purposes.

Let me know what you think chaps - At £1500 i'm happy with only £200 over budget!

Think that was the original RAM someone specced me but price wise it got lowered. Seems this is now the same price though! Hopefully back in stock at same price soon.

I just had an idea. You said in your opening post that you wanted to future proof as much as possible SO why don't you leave out all the extra cables for the time being and use the extra money to get an i7 ?

A few of the Orange cables are out of stock anyway.

Added a H80i cooler for the i7

So you would have this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-03-40G) £341.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £249.95
1 x Asus VN248H 24"Widescreen Super Narrow Bezel LED Monitor - Black £179.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-OC Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £158.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 750W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £99.95
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case - Black (CC-9011017-WW) £78.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02733) £73.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £71.99
1 x Toshiba SSD HDTS212EZSTA 9.5mm 128GB Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £65.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G1600HC9DC01) £55.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £17.99
1 x Corsair AF140 Quiet Series Low Noise High Airflow - Single Pack (CO-9050009-WW) £14.99
1 x Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise - Single Pack (CO-9050005-WW) £13.99
1 x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition Low Noise High Airflow - Single Pack (CO-9050001-WW) £13.99
1 x Gigabyte KM6150 Keyboard and Mouse Set £9.95
Total : £1,516.79 (includes shipping : £20.10).

You could then add the orange cables/LED strip at a later date. Plus if you get your post count up to 100 you qualify for free shipping (Assuming you are mainland UK)

Thanks mate, makes sense. Cut back on ascetics for now and get the system setup. At least i'll know what cables I need then too!

Isn't i7 overkill for gaming though? I guess if I'm going for the H80, best to make the sp120 a dual pack instead of single (Single as there for the h60) and i'll need pwm sp120's now too?

+1 for the suggestion. Could even ask someone like davido_labido* to make custom braided cables for you later on with more variation than just plain orange. The variations (e.g. orange, white, black and grey) really take the braids to another level.

Thanks, will take a look at link when on laptop tomorrow. Looking into a spec now cutting out as much ascetics as possible.

Shame the Vulcan is out of stock right now, especially as its same price as slower ram i have in my spec. will keep my eyes peeled!

By which point, you're better off going for the H105, especially since you're going to be putting aesthetics on the backburner for now:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £93.95

The 120/140mm rads don't come close to the 240+'s. You'll have considerably better temps for overclocking and/or silence (fans won't need to run as fast, except when you need them to).

Adding that is just raising my price point even further. Argh. Will it fit in the 300r too?

As for the ram, your diss'in the boards rep without feeding it quick RAM lol.

Ha, will email OCUK tomorrow and see if they have an ETA on the faster vulcan.

No mate.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £71.99
1 x Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise - Dual Pack (CO-9050006-WW) £25.99
Total : £97.99

See? Cheaper to get the H105 and stick with its stock fans (just for now if you like), than to get the H80i and dual SP120's. :)

EDIT: Thanks Stulid. So H105 not officially supported on the 300R... but the H100i would fit.

H100i looks tight and it's getting on the large side for me. Thanks for suggesting though.

The i7 is probably not going to make much difference over an i5 at the moment, but some games such as BF4 I believe are starting to use Hyperthreading. If you can fit in an i7 without sacrificing any other components then it makes sense.

Looking at the pictures of the H80i it looks like they are 3 pin fans. I would check with Customer Services in the morning providing nobody else answers in the mean time.

The H80i does have dual fans, although you could run it with just one fan 'pushing' I don't know how much temp difference push/pull would offer. I would probably just fit the one fan to start with and see how it goes.

i5 to keep costs down I think, but thanks. I like the idea of h80i with 1 fan and seeing how it goes. Will email OCUK tomorrow and ask if they now if the pam SP120s will work with it.

Thanks again chaps. Will probe spec another build tomorrow... thanks for all your patience and help!

Thanks mate - just the last few niggles and my budget has already been stretched by £200 ha. Think i'm going to do a build and then make it look fancy as phase 2 at a later date. Should help with costs then.

I've just posted on the customer service forum aboutt PWM SP120s and the H80i and also questioned when the faster RAM is coming into stock so hopefully can order this weekend :)

Will posted an updated build just before ordering as usual.

Nice one,

So i've stripped the build down now to parts I want and at a later stage I will work on how it looks (orange cables, modding fan ring colour etc). What do you all think before i FINNALY hit the purchase button:

I've went for the non clocked GPU to save costs further so hopefully it's not hard to OC myself. Anyone got input on this?

Nice one

Im going to add the 140 in the front mate so 2 intakes (alongside 1 140 that comes with case) and the other 120 will go in the roof as an exhaust. Speaking of which, i might delete the 120 and use the 120 in roof that comes with case as H80 will be replacing that :)

Im just trying to improve airflow really - not sure if its needed but can't be a bad thing in theory? Also gives me the chance to add more Orange in future when I spray paint the orange rings.

Just like to say a big thanks to everyone. Build now ordered :) Last minute change in that I decided to not order the extra fans - can see how I do without them and they can be purchased on phase 2 of 'making case look pretty' :)

Look out for my project log soon!

Oh balls i presumed motherboard had wifi and it doesn't, i only thought of checking after i ordered... Naturally. Thought it was standard on motherboards nowadays especially at this price point.

Network card it is i guess

Thanks chaps, will this work with an extension lead do you think (basically not plugged directly into mains)? If so i'll email OCUK and see if I can get it added onto my order. Doesn't look like order will be shipped until Monday anyhow.

I am pretty certain that they have to be plugged directly into a wall socket. The ones I have are made by Devolo and they don't work from an extension lead.

Using extension lead for pc as single socket on wall.

Worst comes to worst ill just get a network card / wireless usb. Will do a lilttle research. Thanks
