not really up for an M3

I'm \warming to the idea of a 330 Sport Coupe

any reason for not looking at the M3 , everything a 330 is and a lot more , obviously you would have to look at a bit older but most have been looked after

just because it's the upper end of my budget, if I can get a 330 that is newer and cheaper then that will be better for me all round.

Insurance is also going to be a lot more for an M3 at 22 even thou I have max no claims!

Anybody have any experience of Saabs?

I bought a 9-3 Convertible for my other half for Christmas. Good to drive, but quality and attention to detail, especially of the interior trim, isn't great. This only really becomes apparent after you've spent a bit of time with the car.

This gets harder now - I am looking at New Octavia Vrs now.....

I think that would be my choice, that or a MkV Golf GTI. With your discount you really should take advantage of it.

It seems like a good option, with discount a new vrs would cost me 13k which is pretty good...

Think I will have to borrow one from work to see what I think.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, what about the facelift Vectra SRi 1.9 CDTi 150ps? They are available for £13995 as ex demo cars. ~£300 on tuning and I read 193hp is possible...

IMO (dont shoot me) When spending £20k on a car you wanna avoid certain badges, namely Ford Vauxhall and Volkswagon. Why spend £20k to look like every other Tom Dick n Harry?

I'd say a nice Mazda 3 Sport if you looking at brand spanky new motor at the lower cost end (yes I know its ford anyway). RX8 second hand (oh come on I gotta say that ;)) Maybe hunt around for a M3.

Other options are the Audi's - avoid the TT's like the plague and something more subtle like a second hand twin turbo S4 ;)

Or down n dirty a few years old Lotus Elise.

Agreed, this man speaketh the truth!

For under £20k you can buy some serious metal; tuscan, skyline, s-type-r, zt260, Monaro. Would it be wasting your money to buy a basic bmw or chavved up derv hatchback?

I guessed he meant ST220 but then again

He will have meant ST220.

It's probably not your sort of car but do bear in mind you can actually buy a brand spanking new one for £17000, and you do get 220bhp, 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, Recaro leather interior, all the toys, etc and despite being a Mondeo residuals are actually damn good - the earliest examples are now only just dipping below £10k and they are 4 years old - £7k lost over 4 years on a brand new Mondeo is nothing to be sniffed at.

I think you need to either lower your budget or raise your expecations - if you want a nice hatchback that does 0-60 in about 9 seconds you can get a great example of many types for about £10k - no need to spend £20k unless you are after something more special.

Since when was something like a 330ci sport, 'basic'?

some people like to simply have piece of mind motoring complete with 3 year warranty and not having to delve under the bonnet, fill the car up once a week and take it to the garage every 12 or so months to have it serviced. I know most people on here are enthusiasts but not everybody in the world is....

I would choose a brand new car over high mileage old car any day...for some people new and practical beats old and performance

Mint R33 GTR with toys? 330d/330 sport, 2nd hand ofcourse. Errrm lexus IS200 sport, bmw 530, CTR/ITR Audi anything, ITR DC5 again, R33 GTR again. how much are 350z's now as an alterrnative to an rx-8? S2000, Golf R32, focus st.

i understand that point of view but new car doesnt mean cheap and hassle free motoring.

would you go for new car over 6/12 month old car?
