New Car Arrival

boo that's no fun then :D

I was in the boss' 535 touring the other day and I though I was going to die as he booted it round a corner in the wet. Nothing happened at all, a few lights flashed on the dashboard and that was it.... I guess the 130's the same bit of kit

Will probably be a similar system I'd imagine. I'd have thought with most ESP systems though that it would actually stop the power but some how it keeps accelerating but just stops you facing the other way. If desired, DTC can be disabled along with the DSC if you hold it down for 5 seconds. I won't be doing that :D Maybe Elliot could provide more info?

Wouldn't mind tracking the car eventually just for one trackday to see how it fares. I don't fancy hundreds of stone chips though.

Will certainly be good to see how it fares on a track :)

Hi there

Well I'd say it would and will make a good track car. Its perfect kinda mix for fast road driving and good for the track.

Weighing only 1375kg, RWD, 265BHP from a superb engine I'd imagine it to do quite well.

In one of the Best motoring videos it beats an R32, Alfa 147 GTA, Audi A3 and is only pipped on the last lap by a DC5. So yeah its quite a capable machine. Good for both track and road. :)

For complete fun approach a damp roundabout at considerable speed, begin the turn and just put your foot to the floor. It may have a bit of a fit at first, and you'll feel it'll applying the power, reducing, applying - but it'll happily take you round and round at near maximum velocity for as long as you want :p

I think you live once, why not blow it on cars if its one of your passions like mine. I brought my first house last year I was 25 and driving a Focus then a Cooper S. A year down the line a BMW 330 Sport on finance.

PS I am still a wuss to turn the traction control off on my car, the thought of swapping the front with the rear dont appeal to me :p

Pretty damned good actually, but don't just take my word for it...... (this is Andre again from the earlier drift video)

8m24 WITH traffic He reckons 8m10 without the holdups. The car is standard except for the LSD, though he does race there.

Awesome car. Love it.

As far as the car vs house debate it’s completely up to the individual on how they spend their money. I'm not sure why everyone feels the need to provide advice. :(

I'm a student, have chosen to dive a fairly crappy M reg Rover 416Si and buy a flat. Living at home isn't really feasable for me as I like my freedom :). But thats my choice. Hopefully once I start full time work I'll have enough money to afford a nice car. :)

I think the 130i is going to get a bit of a cult following myself as it has all the normal BMW dynamic positives, but within a small and easy to throw around package. With Elliot on the LSD point, it needs that to give it the drifting consistency and balance benefits but a great little car even if the looks are not to everyone’s liking, though they have grown on me over time. I suspect when they start to reduce in price and become more available to the masses some of the current views on aesthetics may change when they start turning up on a number of driveways, mark my words.. :p

Hi there

What exactly does an LSD do? What does it assist in? Would that 130i having an LSD actually get it round a track quicker?

Also I do believe they are bringing out a 3 door one series, that will no doubt look nicer. Plus also that is a 135i turbo version in the works I believe. I can imagine a 3.5l straight 6 with twin turbos been quick as standard with huge modding potential.

Also the new Z4M Coupe does it use the same chassis as the one series? If so then that must be one hell of a car as its got more power than the 130i and presumably weighs less too?

An LSD basically ensures torque is always going to both driven wheels, instead of being diverted to the spinning one if traction is lost.

When driving hard it will make you quicker as it allows you to get the power down a bit better and more consistantly, making it easier to progress.

A 135i turbo could be a rather dangerous car. :D.

335i, which i would assume is the same engine, is a 3L turbo rather than a 3.5, they used the 35 designation to differentiate it from the 30. :)

The DTC/DSC+ system BMW fit is superb. Gave someone a lift home tonight as it was snowing and got to one of the smaller ungritted roads which had started to ice up. DTC system kicked in and kept the car totally under control. Not been brave enough to turn it off yet. :p

In really snowy conditions you'll be better off giving the DTC/DSC button a tap. It will enable the ADB* and allow you to move off and maneuver better at low speed, but will engage the DSC system at high speed when it thinks you need it. It's only holding that button down for 5 seconds (Complete off) that you really need to fear :p

*ADB - Automatic Differential Brake. It brakes a slipping drive wheel to transfer the torque to other wheel, which hopefully has more grip!

This is all theory though. Unless it snows at a weekend, I'll never get the chance to put this under a practical test!

I'll let you try it first. :D ;)
