New car

I wouldn't be prepared to pay £37k on something with 240bhp. Don't get me wrong, it's definately not all about power - the car is said to deliver brilliant handling as well.

Maybe "stupidly overpriced" was a little strong (i often exaggerate :p), but it is overpriced. The 2.7 in the Cayman offers little more than the Boxster does, yet the Boxster is around 4k cheaper! This is also the case with the Cayman S in comparison to the new Boxster S.

Even then, something like a 350z (around 28k) or Z4 (31k ish) offer far better value for money. To me, it seems like you pay far more for the Porsche, simply because it has a nice shiny badge on it.

And is built a HECK of a lot better. That it's only £8k more than a Nissan makes it a bargain. Have you sat in a 350Z? Great cars but on another level to the Porsche.

You need to drive one I suggest.

I can buy a PC for £300 that will do 95% of what I want, or I can buy one for £3000 that will do 5% much better.

ha. Drive one? i'd not be allowed within a mile of a Porsche dealership. :p

All i'm going on here is the figures - as i certainly don't know what one is like to drive or own.

To me, i'd be happy having a huge packet of money sitting in my back pocket and have something like a Z4/350z (or even a Boxster!), which would do 99% of what i imagine the Porsche would do, than own a 2.7 Cayman.

Maybe it's down to a personality thing. Maybe it's a lack of me sitting in something like a Cayman and seeing it up close and personal, but i still don't think i'd be persuaded to have pay what i see as over the odds and then to deal with other things running costs of a Porsche.

I think the 2.7 Cayman is a poor cousin, its simply too underpowered, you really need an S and at that level its exceptional value when compared to an RS4 or M3 for example. If I didn't need 4 doors for now I would have chosen a Cayman over the RS4 in a second, even if its slower.

The Z4M is lovely and the 350z is OK (I don't think they are that good) but neither holds a candle to a Cayman in my view, even if the Z4M would show an S a clean pair of heels on a straight road.

Yep proud to say that is one nice car i have sat in :p

8k more than the 350z would only get you a 2.7 Cayman. You get 295ps in a 350z as well as brilliant an all round brilliant driving experience.

However, in the Porsche entry level Boxster, which costs 8k more, you much get less power - and pay 8k more for it.

I don't think i could ever justify to myself spending 8k on an improved interior - £8,000!! I would always look at the Cayman and feel as though i paid that extra 8k for less power, a nice interior and a badge, rather than the car.

Out of interest, what would make you buy a Cayman S over a Z4M?

But power isnt absolutely everything is it, or you'd buy a £1k Nissan 300ZX instead. It's the car as a total package.

I'd not pay £8k extra JUST for a nicer interior but I would not include any car on a shortlist without a well built interor.

Correct. But what does the 2.7 Cayman offer over something like a Z4? Or a Boxster?

Both of the cars i have just mentioned above have a nice interior, great handling and offer a very good driving experience - so where exactly does that £8k extra, for the Cayman, go? Lets not beat around the bush, £8k is a massive sum of money, for what i believe is buying nothing more.

EDIT: Apologies, just realised if we're excluding the 350z, we're talking about 4-5k instead
