Hi all

Bought myself a 53 plate Ford Mondeo yesterday, it's a LX TDCI 2.0, reasonably tidy outside, nothing a bit of t cut wont fix. Lovely inside too apart from a couple of little bits I was hoping you might be able to help me with.

Firstly only half the dash is lit up when the lights are on, the rev counter and engine temp guage (left side) are not lit up but the speedo and fuel guage are (right side).

Secondly the stereo will not switch on at all, doesn't even get to asking for a code.

Any suggestions? I have checked the fuse for both and i'm going to take the stereo out to see if its loose connections.

Cheers

auction site, or local ford dealership. but they will cost a fair amount.
I personally use a small file set. does the job just as well.

it's a different h/u to the one in the video, its more like this one

ahh, okay. Not familiar with that model. But it does seem that it requires the flat tools.
I suspect that you may need to get them from a dealer as no doubt they will have hooks etc.
Perhaps if you are lucky, pop down and if they ain't busy they might pull it out for you for free. I got the guy to do that in my old fiesta, so worth a shot?

^^^ Yeah they require the flat type removal keys, i think they are the same ones that are for the MK6 Fiesta as well (not certain but looking at the radio key hole fitting they look exactly the same, i think the radio might be exactly the same as the one that is in my mums MK6 Fiesta as well). You can pick some up from auction sites for as little as a fiver.

Ford dealer's where I got mine, 50p per key, so not a rip off

That was the same HU as mine had, you can see the slots above and below the buttons on each corner. If you try a screwdriver you'll likely damage the trim, so I'd definitely get the correct tool if you plan on keeping the unit in. They're pretty flimsy after abusing thema few times, so make sure it works before pushing it back in all the way! There's a fuse in the back of it BTW...

If you decide to fit an aftermarket unit, get the bosch faceplate that sits a bit proud of the dash, as despite having a huge dash its suprisingly shallow behind there - even my alpine which doesnt have a CD player didnt fit with the cheaper fascias
