Just ordered some cargo pants off the bay that have kevlar/aramid lining and dupont hip and knee pads - all for £36 posted.
Will update on the quality etc.
I work in an office so hopefully these will look ok for that...I usually wear jeans to work anyway so can't see a problem.

Just can't force myself into the usual gear in this weather which is annoying as I'm using my van all the time now we have nice weather and the bike is sat in the garage.

That's the same price as the normal combats I buy, I wouldn't trust them on a road bike nevermind a motorbike.

ive used them an there ok, but id recommend jhon doe kamikaze cargo pants.

ful lkevlar all over instead of pads, proper stitching with arimid, and water repellent (beads off) £200 though.

still they got me through a motorway off.

I love my Hood ones £150 but fully lined aramid and d3o knee and hip armour, seriously comfy and I've not seen a test where any amount of abuse even dented the lining.

I bought them for the commute to work really which is around 10 miles and most of that is a dual carriageway.
I will still be using the proper textiles for an actual ride out.

£36?! Sounds far too cheap.

I spent £90 on some RST aramid jeans recently for a 4 mile commute, I certainly wouldn't have spent less. They're excellent, I've bought the hip armour as well.
I use them just for local riding and commuting, especially in the heat. Bought some more casual ankle boots as well, the combo is comfortable enough to wear all day at work :)

I'm in the market for a pair and those seem reasonably priced. How much of it is kevlar though, i.e is it just the knees and arse that are reinforced? Also how much room do the hip protectors take up, would I need to go a size up to accommodate them?

+1
I have the Hood K7 jeans with D3O armour and they're great. I wear them for work and just keep hem on all day. I have taken the hip armour out though as found it made the jeans a little tight for sitting in the orifice.
£150 but worth every penny.

So the pants arrived today...
I normally buy 36" waist 33" leg for jeans etc.. but I ordered 38" waist 34" leg for these and they are tight - I will have to send off for a 40" waist.
They have the kevlar/aramid sewn onto the butt area and all down the side seams - about an inch or so on either side of the seam.
They seem ok really for the money.

Just the key bits like you said have kevlar, they're cut loose and quite stretchy denim so even with the hip protectors in wearing my normal jean size there's still plenty of room.

The aramid fibres are on the arse, hips and knees. The hip protection doesn't affect the sizing much, but I would definitely try them on in a shop as I found the size required was at least one less than normal.

I'm still not sold on kevlar kit, myself.
Most of the jeans will be shredded and useless after one off, but tests suggest that leather is still the better material for abraision resistance.

But worse still, it seems the manufacturers make their measurements before they put the kevlar in, as every brand I've tried has either sat too low on the waist or threatened to split me up the middle!!
Seriously, what is with that...?

I'm sometimes tempted to try the kevlar 'chino' types for wearing to the office, still...

No casual trousers will ever beat leather and the Aramid jeans would definitely be ruined after a standard slide off. But you can't wear leather all day at work or just pop round a friends house, so it's a compromise.
I used to wear my full on textiles then change when i get to work, but i soon got tired of that, especially in the heat.

The way i see it, they're better than standard jeans.

Exactly what I'm going for!
I find that by the time I take putting all the gear on I could be half way to work in the tin can - I could get up a bit earlier I suppose...if it weren't for the fact that I can't get up on time as is.

I'm in kevlar jeans in the summer - my commute is 35-40 minutes, 18 miles. All I have to change when I get to work is my boots, and take off my leather jacket. Obviously in winter I'm fully textile'd up, neck buff & balaclava etc. I work in IT so have a relaxed dress code, jeans and a t-shirt pretty much every day.

I start work at 9am, and don't leave the house until 8:20/8:25 most days :p And I finish at 5:30, by the time I've got my earplugs in, kitted up, on the bike and tunes sorted it's 5:40, home by 6:10 or maybe 6:15 if the traffic is horrible. :D
