Hi I’m seriously close to getting into Pc gaming all ways used consoles I’ve had every Generation of Xbox and obviously with the next gen coming next year. My budget is around a £1000 for the pc alone if possible to add some peripherals without losing to much strength.
My real question is it worth buying a ready build from overclockers / chillblast or building from scratch as I’ve never done it before.
And 2nd question will a £1000 computer be better than the next generation gaming consoles.
All help and advice will be extremely grateful.

Hi,
Next-gen consoles will be very powerful boxes!

PC for around £1000 - 8-core Ryzen 7, 16GB DDR4 memory, M.2 PCIe SSD, X570 latest and greatest board, Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card with 8GB VRAM, 500W Gold Power supply with 7-year warranty.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,063.05 (includes shipping: £13.20)

no need for a 3700X for gaming.

get a 3600 or 3600X instead.

spend the extra £100 on a 2070 super or get a 2070 instead of the 5700XT.

I'd take a 5700XT over a vanilla 2070.

The 3700X should have better longevity than the 3600, although there's nothing stopping the OP from upgrading to a 4000 series chip should it become necessary.

I'd build something more along these lines:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,022.89 (includes shipping: £0.00)

1. 3700X for the aforementioned longevity, but you could save money by going for a 3600.
2. PSU is slightly overkill, but it's a fantastic unit which is heavily discounted and comes with a massive 12 year warranty.
3. Case is great value, mesh front so good airflow and it comes with 4x120mm fans.
4. Gigabyte SSD, they've UK based customer service/RMA and there's even an active rep for the company on these forums.
5. Non-blower 5700XT for the same price, the card often trades blows with a 2070S although it does come in as a little slower overall, but is much cheaper despite this.

You can pick up a Windows 10 key for a couple of quid if you look around.

As for whether this will be more powerful than the upcoming consoles? I would say yes with the potential exception of the GPU, but that's something you could upgrade in a couple of years anyway. It's hard to tell just how strong the new consoles will be, most information we have now is speculatory.

thank you for all the help I did phone overclockers this afternoon for someone to talk the different build options and the guy I spoke to advised me to look at the ready built.
FIREFLY PLUS - INTEL CORE I5 9600KF, RADEON RX 5700
  • Intel Core i5 9600KF 6 Core CPU
  • Up to 32GB 3200MHz RAM
  • AMD Radeon RX 5700
  • 480GB Solid State Drive (SSD) with 2TB Hard Drive
I just wanted to ask people’s opinions once again before deciding which to go for.
Thanks again for your help.

How much is that for, and what are the exact and full list of components?

AMD is a better option at the moment for gaming unless you have an unlimited budget.

Edit: I'm guessing this is the pre-build they recommended to you:

For the price I'd say it's crap.

The system I specced you above is vastly superior to the prebuild they've recommended to you.

1. Weaker CPU that wont have the longevity of the 3700X (or 3600), the 9600 is a 6 core 6 thread CPU. The 3700X is an 8 core 16 thread CPU. While this may not be any better for gaming as of right now, going forward, especially after the new consoles launch, I absolutely believe it will be.
2. The PSU I've listed is one of the best money can buy, especially at the sale price. The store page for the pre-build is non specific outside of saying the following: "1000W 80Plus Rated PSU" -- which leads me to believe they'll probably use a high wattage low quality unit such as one of the cheaper Kolink PSU's. The most important thing in your computer is the power supply, it's not an area you want to see skimped on.
3. Cheap entry level AiO cooling, while it looks tidy I wouldn't be surprised if it started having problems in a year or two. A £20-30 air cooler almost definitely has better performance.
4. Weaker GPU in the form of the 5700 vs the 5700XT.
5. Grossly overpriced Windows 10 at £110, you can find perfectly legitimate keys online for £5-10.

Building really isn't that difficult, but if you really don't want to build it yourself you could take the spec to them they'd probably build it for you for a fee. Get a Windows key and install the O/S yourself, it's extremely simple.

if I went with this build using the Ryzen 3700x would the build handle photo and video editing or is there a lot more to it. As this is for my son mainly but if I could use it as well for photography it would be great. When I was looking in to wether I should get the Ryzen 7 3700x or as others have said the Ryzen 5 3600X editing got mentioned withe the Ryzen 7 3700x more then once so I thought I ask one more question sorry and thanks for all the help.

Absolutely! The 3700X is fantastic for productivity.

The Tomahawk is a better board at the same price, when I originally specced the above it was going for £110 or so.

As for the Zalman i3, the glass front will have worse airflow but it's still a decent case if you like the way it looks.
