Hi all,

My friend is looking to buy a new computer using no parts of his previous one as its going to his fiancé. I have not looked at hardware since ddr5 came about so feel a little lost.

I've told him to wait for the 7800x3d release but the rest of his list he has sent me just doesn't feel right, mechanical drive, unsure of ram timings, nvme not the best speeds.

This PC is built for Escape from Tarkov and especially the new map? he is wondering does he require 64gb of ram etc. Hopefully one of you fine specimens might be able to clean the build up and point me in the right direction.

Budget is £2600 no monitor required

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,593.03 (includes delivery: £13.20)

SSD: I'm not a fan of the P3 Plus, QLC based with not great endurance (TBW), I'd go with the SN770 instead (P3 Plus: 220 TBW in 1TB capacity, SN770: 600 TBW).

HDD: 2TB HDD is fine if it is for storage, but for that budget, I wouldn't want to be putting any games on it. My suggestion would be to upgrade to the 2TB SN770 and remove the HDD.

PSU: Personally, if I was spending £200 I'd get the Toughpower GF3 1000, which is a native PCI-E 5.0 / ATX 3.0 PSU, unlike the RM1000x. If he wants that PSU with a 12/16 pin (instead of using a bundled adapter), then I believe you can get the Corsair 12VHPWR kit from OCUK. He could also consider the new Corsair SHIFT models.

RAM: Kingston do a 32GB (2x16GB) 6000 kit for £170. From having a read, it looks like 32GB is sufficient for Escape from Tarkov, but it does appear it can eat a lot of RAM.

CPU/GPU: You can save a small amount by going for the 7700 non-X and the non-OC 4080 (don't know if there are other differences with the Zotac, than just the clock speed).

From a watch of some YouTube videos, the 4080 seems to perform quite well, with the 7900 XTX a bit faster and the 7900 XT quite a sizeable chunk slower, but I can't seem to find any reputable reviewers that have Tarkov benches.

Cooler: Instead of the Dark Rock Pro 4, I'd consider the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (review).

Alternative M-ATX build:

AMD Ryzen 7 7700 Eight Core 5.30GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £338.99
Gigabyte B650M Gaming X AX (Socket AM5) DDR5 Micro ATX Motherboard - £219.95
Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C40 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit - £169.99

Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XTX HellHound 24GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £1,079.99

Lian Li Lancool 205M Mesh Micro-ATX PC Case Black - £69.95
Phanteks Glacier One 240MP All In One CPU Water Cooler D-RGB Black - 240mm - £79.99
Thermaltake Toughpower GEN5 GF3 1000W Fully Modular ATX 3.0 80 Plus Gold Power Supply - £199.99

WD Black SN770 2TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS200T3X0E) - £159.95

Grand Total: £2,331.10 (includes delivery charge of £12.30)
