First, fix the bent pin (be extremely careful), then clean the cpu cooler and cpu with isopropyl alcohol and reapply the thermal paste (a pea sized blob in the centre is fine). A new cooler will help, but it looks like there are more basic issues to resolve.
they said the pins seemed fine. They also said but now the computer looks like its not booting up with that CPU, it was standard clock speed. Looks like they've scratched the cpu getting the paste off.
To be honest the 6-core CPU in it now is still running at high temperatures, so not sure what is causing it.
I guess I could send this CPU to someone if they fancy a look at it, not sure if it will run now though.
No way should you be able to scratch the CPU getting paste off as there's a metal shield over it? (that reminds me.. mmmm Akasa TIM cleaner, that stuff smells lush). If there was TIM all over the place then perhaps some managed to short some pins?
Hah, while we're on the subject of temps, I remember my old AMD T-Bird rig, you could fry bacon on that thing.
