New computer problem

Hi guys, sorry if this is the wrong thread, basically i got a computer from overclockers today and when i turn it on, the fan sounds like a formula one car and nothing boots.

any suggestions?

Plug your 24 pin connector into your motherboard with no other parts connected and see if it will make a beep.

Also your speakers.

Edit: Pre-built or Parts and built yourself? Also, make sure you're using a anti-static band or ground yourself so you don't damage the internal parts if you're going to fiddle about :)

I'll only ring them from work as it costs so much, meaning I can't try to fix it over the phone, not to mention, I had to send the first computer i bought from them back with other problems, lord all i want is a working computer..... rage
 
I think either the couriers overclockers use are useless, or overclockers are (reviews would suggest there not), My first computer needed me to refit the sound card, the second time it came i needed to re - plug a hard drive, and now with this computer from what i can see everything is fitted together, thats about as far as my expertise is going to go regarding computer hardware, but this will be the 3rd time I've had to send something back to overclockers....

can anyone suggest a different company?

I'd like to think I know enough about computers to deal with these minor inconviences, but this is getting beyond the joke now...

Can you take a picture off the connections inside your motherboard case?

Also, try unplug and switch off the power supply and hold it down for about 30 seconds to discharge anything inside it, then re-plug it in and try it.
 
Fans can be loud for a few seconds until the PC starts up properly. I expect that once you get it started up properly, the fans might sort themselves out.

Can you elaborate on "nothing boots"? What actually happens?

Is there any loose cables around the GPU/Heatsink. Also put your ears next to your system, turn it on and locate where the sound is actually coming from. Shouldn't be that hard.
 
Install Fan Xpert if you haven't already (It's part of Asus AI suite) and manually lower the fan sliders for the K2 to zero. It'll be fine at desktop idle. If the noise stops, that'll tell you whether the cpu fans are the cause.

Open Catalyst control centre or (Afterburner if you have it) and manually adjust the GPU fan to 100%. If the noise increases, then there's the problem.

If neither of these make any difference, it's most likely the PSU fan.

As said, double check that there are no stray cables etc dangling in any of the fans.

The problems you are experiencing are not typical of Overclockers, a longstanding company with a great reputation. I understand me saying that doesn't help you resolve the problem you are having, hang in there; I’m certain the many gurus on here will help you to sort this out. :)
 
Hi, So i'm pretty certain it's the cpu fan thats making the noise, the PSU fan stops spinning after the first 5 seconds.

Here is the diagram of the motherboard, where the yellow circle is, there are 2 atx cables, one attached the other not (i guess with it having nothing to plug in to)

the red circle showing one of the parts of the motherboard that does not have a wire/lead connected to it.
