just installed a Q9550 on my Abit fatal1ty fp-in9 sli, and I keep getting "page fault in non paged area" when Windows tries to load.

Everything else in the system is the same hardware no other changes. I'm on vista 64x.

What could it be? I removed ram sticks to try to boot with 1 stick only, makes no difference.

What should one do to system or bios when installing a new CPU?

I forgot to do that. Could that really affect windows loading though? I've tried loading the defaults from within the BIOS but that makes no difference. Is loading the defaults not just the same as clearing CMOS?

The temps are ok according to the BIOS, i'll try clearing the CMOS but I'm really worried that won't solve the problem. Is there anything else I can try?

I have the same board and deliberately got a Q6600 as I've heard of a few issues with the 650i and the newer quads.

One thing I found was the board often likes a little more juice to the northbridge to run at higher FSB's. From memory the chipset was only originally built for 1066Mhz and my board really doesn't like running a quad much faster than 1333Mhz.

I also found fitting a small fan and the northbridge HSF helped stablilty a lot as it sure does get toasty.

Other than that I'd just nudge up some of the voltage options a touch and see if that helps.

Also check your DDR is running at the correct voltage, it may have defaulted back to 1.8v when the new CPU fitted.

Finally I find the most stable setup to be 1333FSB with the memory unlinked and set to 800FSB though I only have GEIL 6400 ram.

thanks for the advice, though I'm not that clued up on all the terms. Could you post perhaps a quick list of what and where I change some settings?

An old thread but piccys of bios settings

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17699083&highlight=fp-in9+username_decto&page=3

In the BIOS..

First option... Softmenu Setup

In the middle of the page (pic 2) you can can change to linked, unlinked etc and set the FSB of the CPU and the memory.

At the bottom of the page (pic 3) , set the voltages to "User Define"

Then you can change them manually

A small bump in voltage helps... Don't set your CPU Core votage as high as 1.5V.. or anywhere near with a new quad. I was running a E4300 that needed a lot of volts to OC.

I don't know what the stock voltage on your CPU I wouldn't go over 0.1V extra than the default Core Voltage unless you understand the settings otherwise without the correct cooling you'll damage the CPU and the board.

DDR 2 voltage is usually set a 2.1v for most 6400 and higher Ram, worth checking the spec of your ram

Northbridge voltage is 1.2V default. Up to 1.4 should be fine, any higher will require better cooling on the black heatsink. I removed mine and refitted with AS5 as by default it has a sticky thermal transfer pad.

Edit ... Just realised I've had this board for 18months... that has to be a record !

deff check your ram voltage, yoru faster fsb will be making your ram fun faster wich means it may need more power. if you havent set it yourself then chances are the bios has set it to 1.8volts and most good ram requires more to run at its full rated speed usually 2.1 but shold say on packaging or website.

Sounds daft, but you haven't mentioned whether you reinstalled your OS. I've seen BSODs where people have fitted new hardware such as CPU or motherboard without reinstalling their OS.

You shouldn't need to reinstall the operating system if you just upgrade the CPU. Windows will just detect the new processor.

A new motherboard on the other hand is a completely different matter, but as the OP has only replaced his CPU he shouldn't be having these problems.

What CPU did you have before? Can you boot into safe mode, and delete the CPU from device manager so windows has to redetect it.

Right I get as far as the "Windows failed to start" message by changing the RAM Voltage to 2.1V as they require. However, I cant get past this.

I haven't changed anything else.

What to do?

I gave up and stuck my old Core 2 Duo back in and everything works fine.

Apart from...

Windows now seems to think Im not connected to the Internet even though Im typing this on the PC within Internet Explorer.

Also all the times and dates are wrong, it says Im in 2006. I try to do an Internet Time Update but as I said it seems to think Im not connected. Thus Windows Update can no longer check for updates because of it.

Any ideas?

Do you think I may have disabled something within the BIOS?
