New CPU Cooling Needed *Help*

All posts are being helpful especially from bif and it is as he says if big air won't fit then h50 is an alternative, i stand by what he says. And bif i'm still torn as to what to get, i've re-measured and my god it'll be tight like a mil at best or maybe just touching and now i'm wondering if it will cause vibration/noise. Such a pain!! The mega would clear everything else like ram and other onboard heatsinks so that's a plus i suppose.

Thats the problem with a lot of the top air, even checked the mid air heatsinks, even they are around the same height.

Its certainly a tough choice, as if it dos'nt fit, its a lot of money, ok u can always sell on, but still its an expense, and like u said even if it does fit, may rub against the case, if that happens i guess u could allways put something on the case panel that the cooler can rest against, so therefore not reverbarate the case as such, kinda like dampening it.

It does have a thin foam lining on it already and if it does touch it will probably just bow the side out a tiny fraction which probably wouldn't be noticeable. I scoured the net to see what people have managed to fit in the case some say yay some say nay, to my best measurements i'd say yes, just. My lady will just tear my head off if i waste the money and it doesn't fit given that with 2 vipers your looking at over 70quid.

Fractal design fans for the case, not expensive, and nice and quiet if you use the 1000rpm ones, quiter if u undervolt them too.

I found these quite pants in all honesty. I bought 5 for cooling my FD R2, swapped them out after 3 days for Sharkoon's.

yeh its a very expensive mistake if it won't fit, i so know what u mean, having made plenty of mistakes like that in the past. But only u can decide really.

@Gary
They are not the best granted, but if u don't need fast fans, they are ideal, i even have my 1000rpm ones, running at 500rpm all the time, absolutly no need to have them running faster lol.

@bif i got the mega plus 2 vipers for it along with 2 for my case. The mega fits, top of the pipes leave a small imprint on the foam that lines the case thats all :) The temps are better, the side is on and the fan doesn't run anywhere near full speed temps haven't gone down that much but definitely enough especially under load. I'm now thinking the case doesn't have the best throughput but may change that in time think a fan controller is next. Also got a Zalman vf3000 on my 5830 which is amazing just trying to get that wired to the gpu header if i can ever find out if the current draw is ok from anyone

Ah good to hear that it fitted, notice you say temps are roughly same, or tiny bit better, but at lower fan speed, wait untill u whack them fans up full speed, especially on that cooler lol.

Im not sure on the gpu cooler, so i'll let someone with more knowledge of them post.

Yeah that's why i want a controller so i can set the limits etc as it's on performance in the bios but it hardly pushes it by any means, time to tweek some more out of the system me thinks :)

Yeah so far anywhere on the web no ones touching the current draw with a bargepole not even the manufacturer but i don't want to just do it and pop it.

I was going to pm but i presume the forum doesn't use pm as i couldn't find it?!

Thanks again you're a very helpful member

yeh can't pm on here, best is e-mailing via trust. And no probs, i allways try and help where i can, its how i learnt stuff, by people helping me in the past, so its only fair to help out myself when i can lol.
