Think it is time to upgrade my i5-750 @ 4GHZ and just wondering what would be best for my needs.

- primarily gaming, bf 4, gta 5, upcoming tomb raider, mad max, fallout 4 etc.
- I only ever intend on having 1 gpu (got a 290 now but might switch to pascal next year)
- 16GB RAM
- decent onboard audio
- m.2 slot and decent PCI lane arrangement/choice
- prefer to stick to gigabyte motherboards
- prefer to keep it to <£450

I intend to stick with whatever I get for a good 4+ years so atm I am leaning towards the i5 6600k.

Not sure yet if I want to go with micro-ATX or standard so would appreciate suggestions for both types of motherboards.

Thanks.

Will need a cooler, I think you have one and if it fits socket 115* then it will fit this.

Get it bought.

Yeah considering that I will likely be keeping this for 5 years, I rather it be future proofed a bit more.

Just doing reviews for the motherboards, seems like they are both very good/similar, the last one you posted has more features overall though so I will probably side with it.

As for my cooler, I have a gelid tranquillo rev. 2. Assuming it will be enough to keep it sub 70, I'll use it for now but in the future I will get an AIO unit.

Thanks, I probably won't overclock till I really need too.

Any idea as to how much of an increase I should see in games average and min. Fps?

Just trying to decide if I should wait for cyber Monday/black friday first, reckon we will get the above items for much cheaper??

The thing that I am struggling with is that £230 for a i5 is just obscene. That used to be i7 money!! The 4690k is £180 on this week only and is not far behind Skylake. It would still be a big boost over what you already have.

Turns out the reviews that I read were for the gaming 7 board, not the gaming 5 board.... :o

Can't see many/any reviews for the gaming 5 but I presume it will be better than the first bundle you linked stu?

Also, just having a look at my CPU cooler (gelid tranquillo rev. 2) and it doesn't support 1151 so going to need a new CPU cooler too, any recommendations for something that runs quieter and with better cooling (air) for about £40, I don't intend on overclocking for a year or 2.

Ah ok, thanks. Already got some of that thermal grizzly stuff, which is fantastic, CPU cores don't go above 65.

Having a look around, it seems like pretty much everywhere that had the i5-6600k for sensible pricing @ £200 is out of stock now so going to have to wait for it *sigh*

Just go for a 4690k. There's not much in it between that and the 6600k and it will still last you for a good few years. Even better, keep checking our Members Market and pick up a bargain deal.
