NEW Creative Sound Cards! Bring on the Recon 3D!

If only Creative can manage to write some decent drivers for once. Gonna wait for some guinea pigs to test out the drivers before even considering one of these.

Ram is overclockable and can require active cooling. A sound card isn't.
A daughter board is like the supreme fx 'sound cards' that came with the old rog boards.
Fact of the matter is that these 'sound cards' were rarely if ever better than onboard.

Mate, read my post again and you would understand what I was talking about rather than being in such a mad rush to reply and bump your post count further.

I assure you, my post cout has nothing todo with this.

I read it thoroughly the first time, and yes, I saw the bit regarding daughter/onboard not being as good as dedicated, but I thought that the ROG boards used a dedicated card and you said that they used a daughter card. That's the bit I was trying to clarify.

Asus have always seemed to hype the sound card on the ROG boards an I've always thought that they were proper sound cards and that with the rampage 4, they just integrated it into the mobo.

What exactly are Realtek and xfi?

I've been using an XFI Fatal1ty Titanium card for about 2 years and I can say that this is a fantastic upgrade. I will write more detail tomorrow, but wow!! Sound quality for music and game quality.. it's all there. They really pulled this one out the bag

Have a look at some video reviews. Admittedly, Asus don't hype it up too much, but I found that the reviewers generally made a big thing about it.

Sorry, another question, why do the Asus xonar cards have fans on them of active cooling isn't needed? (not meant to sound like a dig at anyone BTW). (the circle thing, I think it's a fan)

I can't see anything about the sound of the Rampage being mentioned on Asus's listing at all, likewise with my Maximus IV Extreme.

They don't have fans.
I've used 3 Asus sound cards in the past year (Two in the house now)

Asus Xonar DG (Pretty plain card)
Asus Xonar HD AV 1.3 Deluxe
Asus Xonar Essence STX

No fans

I haven't trusted a creative device since the last one I had and the excuse for 'drivers' Creative put out crashed my machine in such a way I ended up having to format and reinstall.

The circle thing is an LED for added sex appeal.

Martin- ill find the vids tomorrow if I have the time :)

So what do the circles do?

Also, why is everyone banging on about creative drivers, is this a case of people blaming drivers because they don't like the company or is there some truth to it?

The circles do nothing apart from emit a sensual glow :D

Basically what happened was Creative were slow on the uptake of creating working drivers for Windows Vista, which meant there was shoddy support for the cards. This was the older Audigy cards if I remember right.

Are they up to date with drivers nowadays?

I have a sudden urge to get rid of my sound card but have no idea what to replace it with :(

dunno about newer drivers but they can be a bit of a pig .

also if you cant notice difference between onboard and xfi series  night and day to me .

For their newer range of cards I think the drivers are fine, it was just the transition period between a new operating system and older sound cards that presented problems.

Cleeecooo, what do you require from your sound card? Music? Gaming? Mixture of both?

What speakers/headset do you use Cleec?

Logitech X540.

Just been reading around and they use analogue, does that mean my current spud card is good enough and I won't notice a difference?

Spin blaster xfi titanium.

Only uses regarding sound on my computer are listening to my music loudly and gaming :p

well im still using my sound blaster live XFI Fatal1ty fps(pci) with 64bit processor chip plus front i/o bay i've got it with pc i bought years ago off ocuk and have installed it in all my upgrades over the years, but i gave up on creative drivers when i maded the move to vista. been using pax driver pack and they been the best drivers i've ever used on it. my only problem is when i come to do my next upgrade i won't be able to keep it as most if not all motherboards today don't have a pci slot. it may be dated but it still a very good sound card.

Meh.
I'll never grasp why people who have high end PC's like you have an a rather poor sound set up in comparison.
