Pushing the envelope is applicable when said screenshots are from something that was actually playable. Taking an ultra high resolution screenshots with the best graphics you can get is utterly useless. Congratulations, you've made a pretty picture. When you can combine it with playing you've got somewhere. Those images won't be playable graphics for a long, long time.

But it will be playable in the future. What happens when new hardware comes out? People complain that there are no games that use it's full potential (woe is me, no DX11 games on 58XX release date), then when new games come out people complain that the games are too demanding for current hardware.

Look on the bright side, at least when you re-install a few years down the line, you'll be able to play an old game that looks as good as, if not better than a new title. Crysis v S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, Crysis is older but looks grander, amirite?
 
I'd be happy if crysis 2 only looked as good as crysis and warhead, I thoroughly enjoyed both of them which I finished about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Awesome games.
 
Why not just release games that are playable on their current hardware? Yeah sure it means that it'll look dated, but you can then spend the resources making a new one, that can adapt to exactly the right hardware again.

pc gaming is sure to die down in graphics because of consoles. Now people are gunna spend less money on a console than a pc. I hope to god pc version comes out first so we can rub it in console faces.
 
Just wait and see. I love people who speculate and have a heated debate. no one knows yet except that Yirli fella :)

Crysis was awesome but I played it originally with just one 8800 and it was just ok. Story was great. I even liked the floaty bit. It broke the game up. I am working through the game on this rig now and still loving it.
 
i still see a lot of squares in those screenshots...i guess they are on console. Shouldnt dx11 make things a lot smoother?
 
Third engine is what we need, not the second, so these screenshots are irrelevant.

Edit: I thought Crysis was going to use CryEngine 3?

i think cryengine 3 is just a few config tweaks in the editor or game. Its not a whole new system, like a patch basicly.

I read the 2nd one was to demanding for pcs. So the 3rd one is just a patch to make it less demanding on hardware so they can edit a few things to make it look better.
