This is user generated content on what is probably still the best engine around today despite its age, Cryengine 2, used for the original and Warhead. Crytek have made some of the best engines on the planet.
I can only assume because most devs don't waste there time developing engines so you can tweak them to increase the graphics so much you get something that isn't playable at all. Seriously what is the point in the entire top-end of the Cryengine? You can get some awesome screenshots, big whoop, copy/paste images from "Avatar", why would devs waste there time developing something that isn't going to be playable for years.
