New CTR

Clearly the best CTR was the EP3, and the main reason for me wanting the new one is missing my old one as the VTEC/engine was just class. Best hot hatch engine for me after test driving pretty much all of them.

I hope they get this right, the only other hatch that i would look at is the 275 megane, but i dont want to touch french crap. Otherwise looks like i'm sticking with my BMW.

Its not 4 door as far as I was told. Same with the last CTR, gorgeous from front back end fugly. Then again I can't see the back whilst i am driving :p

Best was EK9 or FD2

Yeah hard to say really, I got my FN2 18 months old for £13k with 12k miles on it but sold it last year.

Saw this in person at Goodwood. The concept at least looks beautiful, but I doubt so much the lighting etc will make it to the final version, which makes me sad as that's the most striking part for me.

They traditionally hold their value reasonably well - but then the FN2 was what...£18k new which made up for its quality shortcomings? I just can't see there being a big demand for a year old, £24k+ Type R (assuming it's £30ishk and loses about 20% year 1) when it's not eligible for the "£300pm" crowd. The 9G civic is just not up there inside in either design or finishing for the amount they're asking for even a diseasel version

Ridiculously over priced, hot hatches should not be more than 20k. 10 years ago a CTR was 17k, now its almost doubled.

Ek9 was the best, the steering alone makes it superior.

Agreed about the price they are now. I was looking at a car for the Mrs and saw that the Astra VXR is close to £30k dont get it personally.... If it is true and thats the price then I might have to consider getting something else which is a same really.

Whilst I agree with the general point, you do realise that it's just not possible for them to produce the car for the same price 10 years later?

Applying a middle of the road inflation indice would make £17k into about £24k, before you take into account any currency fluctuation.

You're right that these cars are just getting too expensive though - if the cost to manufacture goes up (which is not a direct increase as process improvements are constantly being brought in which counters some of the material/labour increase) they should be passing on the clear cost cutting that is happening through cheaper interior materials etc - or simply not participating in the frankly silly power war which appears to be ongoing to keep development costs down.

That does seem to be the case, it's all about the fastest lap around the nurburgring and the highest bhp in a front wheel hatch. It's nice and all that but for me it was always about the drive, looks and the iconic noise of the VTEC

Fair point about inflation, but with production cost and I think you partly answered that, surely it hasn't gone up as advancement in production techniques should bring costs down and the switch to everything electrics too, most of these cars also just have bolt on turbos, engineering wise it is not that impressive and surely doesn't cost much in R&D.

I imagine there'll be a massive R&D cost associated with moving to turbo Vtec tbh. Whilst it's acceptable to just bolt on a turbo or supercharger and remap an FN2, it really doesn't give the kind of out the box experience you'd want coming from the manufacturer. All the quirks of doing it yourself/aftemarket become totally unnaceptable as a fresh off the line model.

Chasing ring times will also be eating into it massively.

Love the looks of the concept. Just hope they put it into production like that, rather than make it bland and boring.

I like this quote:

"Want to buy milk?..
Really fast?"

I know this is going to be quite a bit faster than previous Rs, but that price is too high IMO. The EP3 was cheaper, faster, and IMO a better car than a golf GTi at the time, will this be all three of those things?

I think the concept looks stunning. A little bit bonkers but I think that only adds to it. The rear spoiler is totally OTT but the integrated lighting etc makes it look like something that's just rolled off Le Mans 24 Hours.

If it makes production like that it will be very striking on the road.

Was more of a general comment rather than specifically about the Honda, but yeh with the new CTR and the upcoming Earth Dreams engines a lot of money have been poured into it, this years touring cars are a testbed for them, which in itself is expensive business.

I dont remember when Honda was trying do produce something so cool...

I love that back design horns like light spoiler. Its like car with ebay body kit and i can honestly say I IKE THIS RICED OUT CIVIC :)
