Those cards/motherboards all have DP 1.2 inputs, max 4K @ 60 Hz. The problem is there is currently zero ways to get the output of say a Titan-XP to switch over to Thunderbolt 3 for 4K @ 120 Hz.

I'm pretty sure this Dell would have used this Sony panel:

That's a $20,000 pro monitor. The cost of course would be driven down by significant volume increase with the Dell.

I think Dell could pull a profit at $5,000. It would absolutely destroy every other monitor out there and people like me would pay for that. The real problem was Thunderbolt only for 4K 120 Hz. They could have shelved the monitor until DP 1.3/1.4 TCons come available sometime this millennia.

Not sure if that panel has the right tech. Nevertheless, it's not about whether they can pull a profit at $5,000. It's about whether there will be enough demand for a $5,000 monitor that makes it worthwhile for them to go through all the costs and hassle of R&D, fixing OLED issues, production, etc. I don't think there is. If there was, the market would be full of OLED monitors right now.

This destroys other gaming monitors, but at $5000 not a lot of gamers can afford that. And it won't destroy professional monitors. OLED is still not on par to well-calibrated professional IPS panels when it comes to accuracy, viewing angles and the issues of burn-in and short life span still exist. In fact the method that OLED panels use to avoid burn-in actually decreases accuracy of the panel, making it unsuitable for colour-accurate applications.

You are working on some old information there. These Sony OLED's are the creme of the crop professional master monitors. IPS is a joke. OLED has great viewing angles and with no inane IPS glow. Not to mention ~1000:1 contrast ratio of IPS is laughable.

Burn in is a zero issue with modern OLEDs, only slight temporary image retention. LG's white OLED's have tremendous life-span, even greater than a lot LCD's.
