Yup. And that's why they're so awesome. I could get up on mine and jump around and it wouldn't flex at all. They're so sturdy. I honestly can't wrap my head around why people still buy those small traditional office desks that have a hugely compromised workspace, and no rigidity.

100% this.

I've got a 200cm x 90cm x 40mm kitchen worktop with two sets of Ikea drawers underneath it. Absolutely rock solid. Loads of space. Decent amount of depth. I attached 3 legs to the back of it for additional stability.

Looool. I have the identical draws and worktop

Here's mine. I do need some more plants though.

Another vote for solid wood worktop on IKEA Alex drawers here, built mine 7 years ago and other than maybe needing re-oiling in some places, is good as new.

Only problem as others have said is it's bloody heavy!

Space :(

Probably why a lot of people struggled with WFH during lockdowns, while those of us with dedicated gaming working areas were fine :D

I get you on space for width\depth. But what I mean is things like keyboard trays, and shelves below the desk. You can't even get your legs under it etc. So I'd always say get the biggest flat surface you can manage. If you can fit drawers either side underneath then great, but if not forfeit those so you can actually sit under the desk, not against it.

I was lucky with lockdown. Sensed it was coming so had that stuff delivered in Feb 2020. The old large desk from Ikea went to the missus in the spare bedroom so thankfully we both had reasonable workspaces. The amount of Teams calls we had with people living in London just stuck in box\bed rooms or on top of each other in living rooms was insane. Can't have been great.

Bought first house in February 2020.
Before that me and gf were in a one bed flat probably less than 350 sq ft.

There is no way we would have been able to have 2 calls at same time with WFH in one room. It consisted of a living room. A bedroom with barely enough space for a double bed and a kitchen about 2m by 2m and a tiny bathroom. It's the stuff of horrors that.

Check out that kitchen.

Don't know what you're complaining about, there's plenty of space for a laptop next to the microwave, and another on top of the cooker  :D
