New Dinnerware - colour?

I get why Le Creuset pans are expensive as they're bombproof and will last hundred of years if looked after.

Dinnerware  Someone is going to drop one, chip one, scratch one because surely they're just made like normal plates and bowls?

Seems crazy to spend so much money on something like that when stuff just as good can be had for a quarter of the price.

This is from a guy who has a 4090 :p
You're right but there is a big difference in quality. At the villeroy shop the lady basically launched a plate at the floor to prove a point lol.

just buy them if you like them. Spend what you want unless your having to finance some plates.

I like Sea salt. Do you only need 4 plates for couples nights?

I think thats a crazy price but colour wise i just love classic white. Its "clean" and clean.... Food looks good on it.

Are you mixing up the wider Pasta bowls with the deeper cereal bowls?
don't think so - cereal bowls that have a large diameter flat base, as opposed to bowl shaped, if you put milk in them to 3/4" to enable you to get some milk with each spoon of cereal,
I always find you end up having a milk surplus,
also, for children, with large volume bowls - they pour too large portions of cereal

... need to audition some bowls ?

I did look at cheaper sets like this one - https://www.procook.co.uk/product/coastal-blue-stoneware-dinner-set-16-piece-4-settings but there are a fair few reviews being disappointed with their quality. It would range from poorly finished, easily chipped and even not sealed properly underneath allowing moisture to soak in from the underside and let mould start to creep under the "lacquer"

It was this that pushed me to look at better quality sets.

TBH, I didn't think £290 for a 20 piece set was that bad (£14.50/piece) but I could be wrong ... Certainly pricier than IKEA or your local supermarket stuff but I'd expect the quality to be far better - LC do state they can be used in the freezer down to -23°C)and in the oven upto 260°C whereas the cheaper £50-100 sets are 120°C and not in freezer at all. Now I don't plan on using them as such but my train of thought would be - if they can withstand a much bigger range of temps, they need to be tougher.

I like some of the V&B stuff that @dlockers advised but they are even more expensive. It would be circa £450-£500 for an equivalent set.

I am open to suggestions though.

I use my favourite saying for dinnerware, white is right.
I personally find any other colours look a bit off, also look at Next Home. They used to have excellent dinnerware, I had a set bought almost 10 years ago and haven't broken a single plate yet, few chipped bowls though...

Sorry, missed this one.

Yeah, I mean 4 is a "standard set" but also for the reason you mention above or for visitors... I mean, I could get more but they'd hardly be used so not worth the cost. I can get more later if need be.

This thread is why OCUK forums are just so good :) makes me chuckle from solving the middle east crisis to a serious semi discussion about dinner plates.

I tip my hat to you good sirs.

Heres me using my IKEA stuff I have for ages. Although I must admit when I smash, chip them and a few have chipped in the dishwasher alone. I just replace them like for like.

Right now, I couldn’t justify spending that much on plates. Cutlery on the other hand I’ve got decent stuff robert welch set.

May treat myself to a new set of plates for christmas though.

I'd go for the white ones personally.

I break so many plates that i could never spend that much on them :( i must smash a plate or bowl at least yearly.. maybe i'm really unusually clumsy.

The current plates I have are 15-16 years old and I've only chipped a couple of them... One of them did crack after being in the microwave but then they were cheapo Supermarket ones. Again, another reason I am looking at higher quality plates.

Yeah, black plates are for lonely old bachelors :p

Gives off Patrick Bateman vibes

EDIT: - I will admit they do look nice though
