New essential Android apps thread

im with 3, ive got 2gb of tethering per month. i shall play with sidesync.

Im on a note 4 with what ever the current OS is.

I don't think sidesync will work very well, you will either get choppy video or sound lag. Tried the screen streaming to a new work samsung tv from my phone and although the video from youtube was clear the sound was out of sync.

Hi all,

can anyone recommend me a file explorer. I am currently using es file explorer but i am not linking the new update.

is there something similar where i can access my smb/cloud storage etc.

also ive been using quickpic to browse my photos. their recent update also is not to my liking. is there something better ?

many thanks

Use the old version of QuickPic, posted on XDA as re-signed.

As for file explorer, I moved from ES to Solid Explorer. It does everything ES did, and more, in a fully Material UI. It's just beautiful to use.

oh ok. is solid explorer a paid app. it says trial for 14 days.

isnt there any open source alternatives.

If you use a file explorer regularly its worth it. There are a few free/ad-supported ones around but none are anywhere near as good as Solid in my view.

Yup definitely buy it as it's well worth it!

It's free if you use the survey reward money earned from Google ;)

Right, getting a bit cheesed off with ads in Facebook and Twitter now, they're actually starting to effect my experience! Any decent apps out there that can save me? For free ideally :)

Also, something that's not going to drain the battery...

Thanks.

Stock lock screen, I don't need or want fancy shenanigans on the lockscreen, it's supposed to be just that, a lockscreen!

As for FB alternative, facebook website is perfectly featured via the browser, just use that?

Note that for messenger to work, you do need the Facebook app installed.

WhatsApp is the biggest drain of battery on my end, too many big groups that are constantly active :/

Agree, but the LG lock screen (I have a G4) is horrid. Massive, opaque keypad and non-customisable.

All I want is a PIN keypad, no swipe to unlock, double tap to lock, no shortcuts, minimalist and actually allows calls - the only I found that came close was bugged to hell for displaying inbound calls.
