New Fiestas being targeted by thieves

Well they're not exactly going to go "yes sorry, it is a weak point and as a result your car is more likely to be stolen than the Polo next to it" is he? :p

If it's just a bog 1.0 fiesta you will be fine. This has been going on for some time now. Usually they target performance cars like the RS, VXR etc.

maybe i'll be lucky and someone will steal the wifes ecosport.

godawful ugly thing that it is I can only hope that the thieves realize it shares a lot with the fiesta/bmax

:D :D

A lot of people on the Fiesta Pages have been completely moving the OBD port or putting a bracket around it and bolting it on.

Can't remembered if I've mentioned this here or not but my supervisor actually picked one with his own eyes. I mean, he had a choice between a few cars and picked a Ford Ecosport.

Tell me it doesn't look like a roller skate.

If it's a known fault with their system, then they should be acknowledging it, if it's detail is as well known as it appears here then I'd be surprised if it didn't merit a recall.

Obviously all cars have their vulnerabilities, but once one is widely known (like the old ford keys being easily replaced by a screwdriver), then they need to do something about it

There may have been some kind of fix/update to put my mind at rest. Besides he said there was a period where many were stolen so he did acknowledge there was a problem/they were being targeted.

Its a Zetec-S Red edition.

I actually think the 1.0 ecosport is incredibly impressive once you get used to the turbo lag.

Not really an option unfortunately as it's leased. Besides I'm a big believer in the theory that if they want it they'll find a way to take it.

There is a thing on the STOC forum at the minute, which some people have bought, which is essentially a really stiff tight cover that goes over the OBD port, people have reported it's hard enough to get off using two hands when teh door is fully open, so trying to get it off with one hand without setting the alarm off from outside the car would likely be improbable.

I looked at that but couldn't see anywhere to buy one. Also the other solutions are to install a locked metal cage around the port which just isn't an option.

I just remove the OBD fuse from the fuse box on my Fiesta ST. Job done.
Just have to remember to put it back in when it goes for servicing....

Could it be that simple? Do you happen to know which fuse I would need to remove? Does it affect anything else?

They wouldn't have problems if they didn't create all this unnecessary technology in the first place. I mean who needs keyless entry is it really that hard to press one button on your fob to unlock the car? It's the same with push button start that I know of a few people having problems with that wouldn't happen if u could just use your key which takes 2 seconds.
I have considered leasing a new Fiesta ST but apart from not wanting to keep the same car longer than 12 months with living in Liverpool and parking my car on the drive right outside the door I would be worried that keys left in the hall would leave it unlocked with it being so close to the car not to mention if they can steal them that easy anyway it would be gone in 2 seconds :D:rolleyes:
I'll stick with getting a mk2 Focus ST won't have any of them problems then. :p

Just post where it's parked... :p

Rule of Cool. There's something about starting a car by pressing a button that appeals to my inner 9 year old. Thus, my new car is going to have keyless entry and push-button start. :p

That said, I'm totally going to use a steering lock.

Make sure it's a full-wheel steering lock as the long pole ones that go through the wheel can easily be got round by sawing through the wheel and just pulling it out. This used to be a big thing years ago and was nearly a victim of it myself.
