New five pound note

Probably less than a most coins;)

At one point when the copper price was high a few years back old one and two penny coins made before a certain date (with a higher copper content) were actually worth more than their face value as raw materials.

I'm saving all the pre 1992 pennies I get :o

It's not long ago 5 pound notes were as rare as hens teeth as the banks were purposely withholding them. Which meant shops/businesses had to pay for even more coinage to give out as change.

I was working in a national high street retailer 6-8 years ago and there would be plenty of days where a £5 note would never pass through the tills. No joke.

It's only the last few years that more fivers have come into circulation also with some cash machines dispensing them too.

My local drinking house is cash only, local takeaway is cash only, local buses are cash only for ad-hoc fares (unless you buy a weekly pass via their app), barbers cash only, vending machines at work cash only.... list goes on.

Yeah, not everyone lives in the cashless society that is London.

London cant be a cashless society and cocaine capital at the same time. :p

I would rather go somewhere which I know takes cash only. I find card slows everything down.

Why would I wait to queue up in Tescos to buy a bottle of Oasis for £1.30 with my debit card when I can just walk into my corner shop pick up a bottle, put a quid on the counter and walk out.

Same with petrol, five people waiting to pay by card, no problem, walk right on by put a £20 note on the counter and walk off.

Decided to check ebay and people are actually buying these notes on there... Someone is selling them for £12 each and has sold 168. Hahaha.

That depends on where you go. :p:D

lol brilliant :D

I know what you mean. Lots of shops in London now accept payment in the form on a mobile app scanning a barcode. It's linked to your paypal account. You just get the item, zap the barcode and walk out.

Where I live, people still don't understand contactless, in fact, many struggle with chip and pin
