New flat!

Whats it like for getting post delivered there? It's the only issue i've had with flats. If they don't have onsite concierge it's either:

No access if your not royal mail
Smallish letterbox in a public area (not a bad solution really I guess)
Open to the public as far as your door

My last place was the first and it was a proper pain in the ass, UPS didn't even try. Used to just throw a delivery receipt somewhere near the access gate and call it a day (not even an effort to wedge it in the gate usually).
 
Nice purchase mate, look a really nice flat.

Hoping I will be purchasing myself in the next 6 months or so :)

I have the same issue as our building requires a code to get in.

Most stuff ends up being left under the postbox inside but like you say any courier like UPS will just give up.
 
Ahh my mate lives in the exact same block. Really nice flats in there at very reasonable prices. Looks like you bagged the best decorated one there! obviously not a student flat previously. Nice one :)
 
That's a lot of money to put down and a lot to pay every month! Someone is making a killer out of people. Nice pad but there is no chance I could ever put that down to start with.

It seems like the house prices and mortgages are only for the rich these days.
 
do you mind me asking how you managed to save that much? Was it an inheritance or some such or have you just grafted and not spent?

I'm in a position where I'm renting and my disposable income just isn't enough to comprehend getting 30-40k lump sums of cash together. Even if I managed to put £400 a month away, it'd take 9 years to save a deposit! By that point I imagine i'd need something bigger than could be bought with that deposit, so continue saving, ad infinitum. It's annoying as I actually pay more in rent than your mortgage costs, and you actually have something to show for it, but without the deposit you can't get the mortgage!

If only I'dve thought about this more before moving out of my parents house :( It's now not at all practical to move back with them (where I work, space, amount of stuff I have etc)

Ah well, just need to try and earn more!
 
Lovely flat!

Almost tempting to move to Scotland for those kind of property prices! My brother lives just outside Inverkeithing and he's thinking of buying at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about the small kitchen myself - M&S microwave meals for the win! :)

Anyway, most people are saying the kitchen is small. I'll give you that but it's bigger than my last kitchen so I find it hard to complain!

yer_averagejoe - crazy! The world is far to small a place! I've got 5 mates that live in the same block.

Mail, as far as I can remember, is done via the main door. There's only 3 neighbours with the same "front" door as me (who I'm told all own their flats as well) so I'm planning on getting to know them. Hopefully won't be a problem!

rG-tom - I saved the money with a bit of hard graft and money from my parents. I actually lived with my parents with a full time, professional, job for a while. This was with the exact intention of saving money for my first place.

I realise I've been more than lucky with this find and the time to buy. I also know that I'm very fortunate with my parents background and a comfortable job at my age. In my search I was hearing horror stories of people paying 10 to 20% over the asking price but luckily that wasn't the case for me!

Hope everyone else's house hunting goes as well! Like I said, I'll probably have a post regarding doing up the cinema room so no doubt be asking for tips over at Home Cinema & Hi-Fi :D
 
Lovely place fella.

Got to echo a point above as well though. In general terms why is that new flats/converted apartments always have the tiniest kitchens? :confused;
