Hi all

And... Happy Christmas :-)

So now to the query.

The wife bought me 'Alien Isolation' for Xmas and it won't work with my ATI Radeon HD 4800 graphics card.

Can you suggest a suitable replacement for this card with a budget maximum of £100. I'd rather not go up to the maximum if possible so feel free to suggest some budget cards.

I play Call of Duty WAW and the likes. Nothing overly taxing for a graphics card but I suspect that the Alien game will push the limits a little. I need something that is Direct X 11 compatible. I found the one below on the ** No competitor talk **website, should I go for it or can you suggest an alternative:

Delete the competitor ref.
What res/monitor are you playing at/on?
Whats the rest of your system?
The above may still struggle, only 1gb vram, even on low settings.

I would not trust that PSU one bit, only thing that is good for is the scrap heap. Have a look in the not too distant future at looking at a decent psu.

Ho ho ho.

It's been in my system for about five years I think. It's not even blinked at the load I have given it so far and my PC is on between 6PM and 11PM every night. Then all weekend.

I'd be happy buying another.

:-)

:D

The old gpu was low power, the 7950 will pull a lot more. The set Idleman linked to will be a good choice :p

But, and I'm not wanting to start a techie argument here as it's Christmas, the one I have is 700wt and the ones suggested are 550 and 500wt respectively. Surely my 700wt would be better......

With the Superflower it will be able to give and maintain 550w of power with stable rails, cheaper PSU's will be unable to maintain stable rails and possibly shut down or fail. I think they also they work the rails out different but the label on side of the PSU will show the rails and amperage.

Ok, I just bought it. The delivery charge is a bit expensive and I didn't see a cheaper option. Is Father Christmas doing deliveries, I hope so at that cost !!

A decent 750W Psu has a few built in protection features, so if your unit decides to go pop, then it does'nt take the rest of the system with it. The Artic, likely has none of these. And for a £20-30 unit, the quality of the internal components will be pretty poor.

Over Voltage Protection / Over Current Protection / Over Power Protection / Short Circuit Protection / Under Voltage Protection

If you had got the Superflower with the Gpu, you would have gotten free shipping.:)
