Hi everyone, I was recommended to this forum by a techy friend of mine; he said you could help me.

I’m looking for the ultimate gaming experience, with a maximum budget of £1900. I have a good keyboard, mouse, soundcard & speakers already, so I will only be needing a monitor and the computer.

I’m not very savvy at all in this field so I would be very thankful for any help you could give me.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for the very helpful quick responses.

Here's where I’m going to show my ignorance... is the 2mb GTX 680 better than the 3mb 7970? In my ditzy shallow mind I'm thinking "3mb sounds better than 2mb but the 680 is newer so I don't know -- headache". I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about.

Also, is it worth getting the i7 if you can afford it? For the demands of future games?

Thanks.

On one monitor, the 680 will probably perform better. Only at higher resolutions (ie, eyefinity 3-monitors etc) would you need any more vram than the 2gb. At stock, the 680 seems to perform better than the 7970 and they seem to be selling very well at the moment! But fanboys from each nvidia and amd will try to tempt you their way, so ultimately, it's going to be your decision :P! Both cards provide fantastic overkill performance for single-screen gaming.

Hi leanneuk, if i where you and had £1900 to spend then i would probably go with a socket 2011 setup with an i7 CPU and maybe SLI. Although if your just going to be gaming and usiong the machine for general use and would like to save some of your budget then an i5 2500K would suit you fine. Also have a look at the Dell Ultrasharp monitors.

To be honest you will waste your money spending any more than about £1400

Would you like 3D?
What size monitor would you prefer/what resolution?
Will you be overclocking?
Would you prefer a liquid or air cooled system?

Personally if I had £1900 I'd wait for Ivybridge but if I couldn't wait I'd go for something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (02G-P4-2680-KR)
1 x Benq XL2420T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Vision 2.0 Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red
1 x Asus P8Z68-V PRO GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM
1 x Cooler Master HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black (RC-942)
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT128M4SSD2)
1 x XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001)
1 x Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA775/AM2/AM2)
2 x Samsung Green 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel Kit (MV-3V4G3D/US) **WEEKEND SPECIAL**
1 x LG GH22NS70 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - Retail

Total : £1,731.05 (includes shipping : £16.85).

Then either save the remaining £200 to SLI 680's in the future or get the monitor that comes with the 3D glasses kit. Imho 2500k is all you need for gaming as it can easily clock to well over 4ghz and the money required to go i7 could be much better spent elsewhere.
