I am looking to build a new gaming PC that will also be used for Photoshop and Illustrator as well.

I started out with a budget of £1k but looking like this will need to go up to £1.5k. This is for everything, including monitor (I have a keyboard and mouse but may look to replace these as well)

I have been looking at an AMD build and was thinking of getting the AMD Ryzen 3700x. Was also aiming for at least 16gb RAM and an 8gb GPU. I want a 1gb SSD for OS and games, as well as a HDD for storing other media - probably 2tb+

Is it best to get an X570 Mobo for the 3700x?

The Team Group RAM seems to be the most competitively priced - is it any good? I was hoping to get at least 3200mhz, and tempted to push up to 32gb of RAM if budget will allow

Which GPUs would people recommend - could I go higher than 8gb in my budget?

In terms of games, will be looking to play WoW and similar games, along with flight simulators and FPS's

Any advise or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Photoshop and Illustrator as well.
how serious are you into editing? ie: if it earns your wages, better to get the 3900x instead.
same with the monitor choices, yoiu might need to spend extra on a good monitor with good colours if that is the case.

@lltfdaniel apologies

as a heads up, ryzen 3600 - no need for any higher 8 core using Photoshop or Illustrator - saves cash to be placed else where :)

if video- 3900x!

and as tamz mentioned with monitor- specially if your printing or it makes you money!!! need a DAMN good one!

Will only be images and will not be a main source of income, will be more of a side income for my wife at some point making cards etc.

The main use will be gaming (he says optimistically)

I would like to be able to play games in a high resolution so a good screen will be on the list to buy

all hail ryzen - though at price increase, i5 9600k isn't to bad for 1080p 144hz gaming, but if you want higher res, ryzen!

if making cards via printing yourself or going to a printer. get a monitor with HIGH Adobe RGB coverage , as the end products colour will look almost exactly as its been designed . wife learnt this when doing are wedding invites with water colour effects so I got her a new 1440p 100% adobe rgb screen and BOOM- perfect match

Please excuse my ignorance, but will it state high adobe rgb, or am I looking for a certain number of colours?

Sorry lltfdaniel, forgot to thank you for that basket suggestion.

Is it better to go for a 450 or 570 mobo?

Does anyone have any pointers on ssd types for my intended uses?

I have heard ryzen needs high mhz on RAM, should I in fact be looking for 3600mhz?

b450 will need a bios update for it to work with ryzen 3000. x570 will work out of the box.
x570 is more expensive and contains features that most people are unlikely to need. want maybe. need probably not.

as you're going to use your computer for disk intensive stuff, nvme ssd is a good choice. suggest the corsair mp510

it doesn't need it. in any case, the jury is out there just now. can't really say 100% or not...but for a normal rig (like yours...not the ones that run into a few thousands) just stick with more value oriented ram

After a couple of bank busting surprises I am now in a position to look at buying and building everything. What are people's thoughts on the build below? I will be building this myself.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
ASRock X570 Mobo
Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4-3200mhz RAM
Seagate Barracuda 4TB HD
Corsair MP510 960GB SSD
PowerColor Radeon RX590 8GB Red Devil GPU
Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower
EVGA SuperNova G3 650W 80+ Gold Power Supply
Microsoft Windows 10 (amazed at cost of this!)
Asus VG248QE 24" 1920x1080 144hz monitor

The bits I am not sure on are:
  • Is the Mobo any good?
  • Do I really need 32GB of RAM?
  • Is the GPU a bit out of place compared to the rest - should I really look to spend a bit more on a different one, if so which would be best?
Thanks in advance

ASRock X570 Mobo
just get the msi b450 tomahawk max instead and save ~£70-100

Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4-3200mhz RAM
crucial ballistix LT is the obvious choice here. no need to spec any other ram

Corsair MP510 960GB SSD
sabrent rocket 1tb is the better bang/buck choice here

Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower
this is a really old case design. not worth considering imo

PowerColor Radeon RX590 8GB Red Devil GPU
that's a really anaemic gpu for late 2019/2020
from the cost savings from the above - can get the rx5700xt instead

Microsoft Windows 10 (amazed at cost of this!)
get a grey key for a tenner (or less)

Asus VG248QE 24" 1920x1080 144hz monitor
with the money saved from getting a grey windows key...can get the dell s2719dgf instead. 27 inch 1440p 144hz freesync monitor which will pair up very nicely with the 5700xt

@JRed would go with Gigabyte mobo personally for RMA and CS being based in UK- though dont have mATX like ASRock do .

if going x570 then would push 3600hz ram! makes sense and would go with the likes of crucial 3200hz 2x 16gb Sport that @tamzzy uses for a steal of a price ! overclock to 3600hz+

Flight Sims and RTS such as City Skylines can go above 16gb via mods and scripts added to it , again tamzzy can point this out with skylines ! but generally 16gb is fine. with X570 and Zen3 its easier to add another 2 ram sticks later. B450 and Zen2 doesn't like 4 sticks as much due to PCB design and Memory Controller being weaker

also, Rocket 1tb NVMe .

though to be honest, might just end up with B450 MSI to save some cash and maybe pump up GPU a little !

ahhh tamzzy got in there before hand :)

Thanks guys, any particular rx5700xt to look at? Is it worth getting the xt or just go for plane 5700?

What x570 is best bang for buck at moment if I wanted to go that route?

Gaming X and Aorus elite , asus tuf wifi is also on sale for a good-ish price

gigabyte has the better rma/cs being in the UK . asus/MSI the easier bios

Thanks, will spec out a 5700xt and have a look at other mobos, suppose can always add another 2 8gb RAM sticks in future if needed
