Bloke at work just got the brand new google phone - the 'Nexus 1'.

It's basically exactly the same as my HTC magic except for animated backgrounds (which are each cool to look at for about 12 seconds) and apps open slightly quicker, and 5 'desktop spaces' rather than 3. That's about it.

Basically don't get too excited. You're gonna be using exactly the same apps as you use on any other google phone. OOh - it's got a 3mm jack. Big deal -- I can buy an adapter for £3 for the Magic ..

I made all the polite 'Wow it looks amazing' sounds about the thing .. but inside I was thinking 'So -- is that it? Looks the same as the HTC I've had for months - and you paid £490 for the thing? Jees ..'

:(

OOps -- mods -- move me!

I can't see any significant difference and I've got both the phones in front of me right now ...

AND they both say 'HTC' on the back. Thought this phone was supposed to be done by google!!

If you aren't bothered, why the post? Clearly you are suffering from a terrible case of jealousy :)

The post is to say about my indifference. If I wanted one, I could buy one. If I wanted 100, I could buy 100.

The post is to say 'Don't bother buying one'. I'm trying to think of what app on the magic runs so slow I'm thinking 'I wish I had 1ghtz processor'!

Are you seriously telling me that you can't see much difference between these two phones?

Unless my pics are wrong, if you're referring to hardware inside it's totally different too.

A mate text me the other day saying 'Have you seen the new Nexus 1?' And I replied that although its probably quite nice its not particularly revolutionary and is basically another HTC phone with Android on.

His response: 'I ordered one....'

Edit: It does actually look quite nice, just seems there's much more hype surrounding this phone than any other Google phone. Just the latest processor/screen etc. Unless I'm grossly mistaken....

I don't think they used the 1GHz snapdragon processor because specific apps were running slowly - they use it because future apps will be able to take advantage of the extra power (much like the iPhone 3GS).

If you were really indifferent, you wouldn't have posted!

Here is what I can see different

1) Physical -- the new phone is kind of bigger. The buttons are slightly different. The battery is bigger. The camera has a flash.
2) Software -- I can see virtually no difference at all ...

a) Apps open a little quicker
b) Apps perform about identically
c) Animated backgrounds are funky
d) There are 5 desktop backgrounds

And that's it! Sorry -- seriously -- I don't know -- what is supposed to actually be improved? The screen res? well -- ok .. take your word for it ..

I have an HTC Magic -- not an Iphone ...

Plus its a much sexier piece of kit compared to the Magic...and not forgetting the better hardware in the nexus over the Magic which i thought was dog slow at the best of times:p.

Yes I would. I can prove it because I did!

Exactly the same as someone posting about being indifferent about the film 'Avatar' when they expected to be blown away by it. If someone did that, would you reply

'You obviously weren't indifferent because you've posted about it'.

Basically, you make no sense!!

The engraving thing is OK I suppose. It's quite big. I think the only thing that is sexier is the fact it is black where my Magic is white which is a god-awful colour for any phone ..

IN THE FUTURE I guess it may start doing something my phone can't. At the moment the ONLY thing I notice any difference on AT ALL with is the animated backdrops, and app opening speed. That's it. Nothing, whatsoever, else, software wise, different.

Don't know what I expected really, but I expected something.

Not really - you went to the bother of creating a thread and (in 4 paragraphs no less) tried to tell us how much you didn't care about it.

Why not a single line post in the existing thread? Or why bother at all? Generally if I'm indifferent about something I don't go to the bother of creating a thread about it!

I originally created the thread in 'general' because I didn't know the mobile phone section existed, no matter that there was a 'google phone' thread in it.

I bothered at all in order to simulate conversation. If people don't bother posting, generally -- er -- we don't have many posts.

If I'm indifferent to something everyone else is raving about, then it's worth stating my opinion.

It works both ways you see. If there was a thread stating 'Avatar was excellent' full of comments of people saying 'Yea Avatar was excellent', I'd only BOTHER posting if I was indifferent about Avatar. Otherwise you are bringing nothing to the conversation.

I guess if you were 'indifferent' about the holocaust it's also not worth posting your opinion?

Get it? indifference is just as valid and potentially interesting position as any other .. it's all relative to what the mainstay opinion is.

Get down the pub and have some long conversations with people, you'll soon crack it .. it's never been 'The further away from indifference you feel about something .. the more it's worth posting about it'. Although I can see how you've formed the conclusion ..
