New google phone

Don't mean to be harsh on you, but you're kind of missing the point when you say "there's no difference". And like others have said, there's a little green eyed envy showing when you have to shout to the world that what you have is just as good as something somebody else has bought.

Naah - I wasn't joking when I said I could afford 100 Nexus 1 phones at £500 a pop if I chose ....

It's exactly the same as if, for example, you wrote you were dissappointed when you test-drove the Ferrari F355. You'd expect in advance absolutely amazing. If you just felt you only got 'Slightly better than your currently owned BMW 7 Series' and wrote as such on t'net -- imagine how annoying it would be when lots of people respond 'You're just jealous Bwahahaa.'. It's like 'no mate -- seriously -- that was my opinion.'. They are like 'Ooh Mr Jealousy - hows your green-eyed monster?'. I mean -- are we 13 years old here?

It effectively makes it impossible to negatively comment on anything that is better than what you currently own - which you must admit is a pretty naff way to proceed ...?

I also don't own Manchester united football club. Presumably slating them is also just proof of my 'jealousy at not owning them'?? hmm .. interesting ..

I think much more likely is that you were enjoying being excited about the Nexus 1 and what I said burst your bubble -- so you wanted to have a little kick to the shins back at me for ruining your fun daydreams about this 'awesome new phone'! Er .. sorry -- just saying it as I see it bro!!

I don't see how that could stop you from being bitter about your colleague "1 upping" you in your eyes if you're that kind of person. Some people just get on like that when anyone around them has something better than them. The way you've mentioned your wealth a few times now, would sort of reinforce that. :p But I am only making observations, not pointing the finger.

No matter the amount of money I had, i'd still be slightly raged if I bought I tech bit and something better came out shortly after.

Then don't get into PCs or phones -- you'll lead a bitter and twisted life :)

(If I said I couldn't afford a Nexus -- I'm jealous of the guy who'se got one. if I say i can afford a Nexus -- I'm sort of reinforcing the fact I'm jealous of the guy who'se got one!! Wow -- that is just awesome.)

If I can afford something and someone else has it and I want it -- I'll buy it! That's how it stops jealousy being possible in my eyes .. how I could possibly be jealous of something I could have at any time I wanted? I just don't understand how it's possible at all?

Riiiight. What was that about being 13 years old ?

Seriously. I rest my case ...

Seriously -- you said I was jealous hence why I wrote nasty things about your beloved nexus!! What a bizarre charge! Following your exact logic, I jealous if I write nasty things about an F16 fighter plane! Because I don't own one?

Indeed, good idea for you to rest your case and walk away .. the wierdest argument I've read on here to date - and a strange way to live your life! I told my missus about your thoughts about jealousy she also thinks it's really wierd.. so do the guys at work. Lot of confused people here ..

'I hate that nightclub'.

'You're just jealous because you don't own it'

I mean -- seriously fella' ... er .. what ..?

I'm pulling your chain a bit here - perhaps undeservedly. ;)

But putting aside my comment about you being jealous (and I take on board you saying you're not), the other comments I made still hold true. I'm not sure what you were expecting exactly ? Ok, it's not the mobile phone revolution you thought it would be. But it's a seriously good bit of kit nonetheless, and certainly not the "same" as your Magic.

You concede, having read this thread, that there are differences and the Nexus is a step forward in mobile phone technology ?

Yes I concede to that point. There are big differences and it certainly is a step forward. it's not the same as my Magic. I'm tired of arguing anyway so I'm glad we met somewhere in the middle ... ok .. next thread ..

It is quite a decision to get this or wait for the bravo, they both would meet my requirements and that,I want the phone to be internet in my pocket and last me for about 5 years, its just a contract I would have problems with. It's not that I can't afford a contract or 500 if I wanted, I just hate them.

Coming from someone who has been happily plodding a long with 'normal' phones (currently on a C902) I'm greatly looking forward to what comes out of both apple's, google's, HTC's and perhaps some other handset maker who will make something 'breakthrough'.

At the same time, I wonder what people were expecting when they say, 'Oh, I was expecting something more revoultionary.' More revoultionary than what? We now have phones that can browse the internet, make video calls, take pictures and record video, upload said images and video to the net and a miriad of other things through apps.

What more are people expecting? A port where you can plug in a wire from the latest X-1000 series of brain interfacing technology and actually surf the web with a little virtual you on a little virtual surf board?

People moan about new phones looking too 'boring' but then rave about iphones that are basically a slab with a button on the front and a few on the side.

People then moan about lack of multi tasking on iphones but its that same multi tasking that saps away all their battery on their new phone.

For people who already have a 'current' gen phone with all the bells and whistles, theres little point in them nitpicking because they're not going to buy a new phone when their current one does 90% of everything the other one can do.

But for someone who has yet to choose, its both exciting to be able to choose between so many, but also annoying because they all do nearly the same things, just in different ways.

Just my 2 pence, take it as you will :)

Should be no different to any other phone, probably better in fact due to the AM OLED screen and better circuitry.
I'm just surprised how fast things have moved on, my netbook is only 1.6GHz!

OLED screen is nice, does it stay lit all the time or does it go dim when you are not using like normal backlit displays?
