**********NEW GRAW 1.10 With & Without physX TEST**********

Even if I did want one of these, I dont have a spare PCI slot.

Gimme PCIe x1 cards, let them be sub £100, then I'll get one.

I tell you what Ill just throw a bag of Maltesers or M&M`s at the screen and save £200+

Hahahaahhahahah. On a serious note, is it true that the particles, debri and etc. just come out of nowhere?

:D :D :D i choked on my coke and bubbles came out of my nose :)

Yup you've gained about 4 frames for £220.

You forgot the effects!

£220 = 4 extra fps plus 5 to ten specs of extra grit... :/

i still dont understand the need for this anyway, F.E.A.R. was a good example of just how many things you can have flying around with just a high range dx 9 card. bugger an extra £200 for this pos.

Thats some damn expensive grit

I'm sure you can get it by the sack full down at the local garden centre for quite cheap...

How do these fps compare to GRAW 1.00? Have the fps gone from 1.00 to 1.10?
Maybe they have slowed down the game so much that a PPU speeds it up :p

A good point - it's entirely possible that the non-PPU framerate has been decimated with the new patch, thus making PPU-enabled look more competitive. It would be great to see a comparison of 1.00 vs 1.10 in the same situation with PPU disabled.

I like grit, maybe i'll buy one of these here physical thingamyjigs. Do they make an ISA card version?

Dude, you won't find one of us that dissagree with you. In as far as writing the card off, I believe that the current implimentation of the PhysX card has already expired in its relevance.

These are the points that I see:

- Ageia have release a card that has little or no software support into a rapidly developing market.

- There is no specifically developed software for the PhysX implimentation.

- The Ageia marketing strategy has been based on promises and smoke and mirrors.

- We have hardware that has been developed and much like gaming consoles is only just being optimised for semi efficient utilisation.

The fact is that we have a piece of hardware on the market that was released ahead of its time, when there has been sufficient market precident to not have made the same mistake as the original 3D video cards, and yet they still have.

Surely the lesson has been learnt that to release hardware like this into a market that is so rapidly moving, you have to have a rock solid foundation with which to demonstrate how relative it is to the consumer... (maybe not...)

There is no denying that the PhysX card is clever and the idea is sound, but the introduction to the market and the current implimentation surely can't be painting a good future for Ageia and has surely damaged their credibility somewhat. From my perspective as a consumer I'd be happier with developers reworking their code and learning to more efficiently utilise the already massive processing power of the present day GPU and CPU rather than providing them with another 'out' and warranting lazy coding.

I agree with you there man. Should be interesting to see where everything goes. Since we have multi-cored cpu's around now with clock speeds getting quicker and quicker i should think there will be a plethora of choices for developers to further enhance their games utilization of all our hardware. I'll be waiting to see which way things go before making any more purchases.

Hahaha there is no detail what so ever in those explosions.. all im seeing is slightly bigger lighting effects and what I can only describe as blocks (cubes!) of flying debrey.... amazing! Its hardly wow what a difference is it?

So your sayin my GPU on its own can't manage this? Christ lol do me a favour!

Im not impressed (an under statement)

Read the thread dude, the physics card just does the calculations, its the game that tells your gpu what to draw.

But doesn't that have a £7K limit per annum?

Luckily for me I have this tax free savings thing that i put money into year in year out.............

my PC :)

Personally, it is just a waste of money that has been made obviously clear by many people. Anaway SLi Physics basically does the same thing right? It looks just as good anyway, the SLi is useful for games that dont use much physics to give better eye candy.

Whatever you do the last bits always start going 1unit for 100pounds as opposed to the first units going for 1pound each :p

Engines also an example... from 200ps to 250 50quid. from 800 to 800 to 850 prolly 5000 quid :p

Thats the cost of being on the edge :D

But I am glad the card is doing what it was supposed to do now and imo 200quid is not expensive if you want the extra effects. Maybe this game atm doesnt have many but I am sure next releases will make the gap bigger. The FPS increase seems the PPU runs relaxed I think so I bet there is still more to come until they max it out.

People need to remember what this card actually is and what its used for. I think GRAW is a very poor game to judge the card on. The cards purpose is to calculate phsyics -> not to make explosions look pretty.
Want we need is a demo with 1000s of rag dolls falling down stairs etc see how it runs with the cpu calculating the phsyics and one with the ppu.

Some people seem to think that this card was some how meant to bring the next step in the graphics revolution, when really its taking the first steps in making games more realistic -> GRAW doesnt use it in this way.

Early adapters are always going to be ripped off and obviously its not worth £200+, but in 6->12->18 months time, should it still be here, I'd be shocked if the cards were not under £100 and actually bringing a fair bit to games.

Just my view :)

If thats right about the G80/G90 having PPU's on em, then what will happen to these Ageia cards, makes em redundant as you will already have one.

Bingo. Near-future GPU's will have onboard PPU's, they have the spare horsepower and this will enable us to use it and get the maximum value for our money. People buying these cards now confound me... there's no support, the cost is exorbitant, and the difference is 100% negligible. £220 for that? You'd have to be a complete muggin... it's such a waste of money.

say what?
graphic cards will never have spare horse power; there will always be higher resolutions, there will always be increasing draw distances and there will always be a cutting edge feature that will cripple any gfx config. At the moment thats HDR + AA + AF.
The moment graphic cards can run the cutting edge games with full eye candy and steam to spare is the moment pc gaming stops being cutting edge; a sad day indeed.
