I'm looking at upgrading to a new hard disk. I've had two Maxtor in the past and whilst they have been fast but a little on the noisy side.

What brands generally make less noise? Also which ones use fluid bearings??

Thanks

Samsung are considered as some of the quiestest drives at the moment. But i'd seriously consider the Seagate 7200.10 series, as they are the performance leaders for large scale drives at the moment and offer great value for money.

Thanks for the reply. I've got a NF7 with PATA.

I would like to buy a SATA I\O card. How would the card work before its booted to XP? Does the bios know about SATA I\O cards?

I've also got a DVD burner on my secondary IDE port, so I would need to use an IDE channel on this new SATA card or keep my existing mobo IDE channel on.

I've never user an I\O card for my hard disk so just want to know before hand how it would hook up.
