Im spec'ing up some new PC's for work.

Im wondering whether to get 76GB raptors again or maybe one of the newer 16MB 7200rpm drives like the Western Digital AAKS. I own both of these drives at home and here are HDtune results.

Now, the 3D CAD package we use has models consisting of thousands of tiny files of only a few kb in size.

With this in mind Im thinking a low access time (Raptor) would be better than a higher average transfer speed (AAKS) ??

Is the raptor still the best choice out of the two in my case ?

well yours is the old raptor 74gb, the new 16mb version is MUCH faster, so if you dont need loads of space get those. the WD 160gb is very quick too and only around £30.

with small files im almost certain, however you should be 1 * 74gb 16mb raptor and 1 of the other drives and test, thats the only way to know for sure. you can always sell the drive on auction sites for £20 less than purchase price after the test!
