New home BILLS!!

Hey all, I have been living in a shared house now since leaving home, only cost me £300PM and that included everything.

Now I have just got a home with my girlfriend and I totally didn't realise a home can cost so much!!!

Rent ; £395
Water ; £35
Electric and Gas ; £75
Councill Tax ; £92
TV ; £22

Plus the other stuff like Internet, Home Insurance, Increase in Car Insurance.

It's nice having a home to yourselfs though!!!

I has been a sruggle this month with paying £400 for bond too!!

Who else rents??? I was going to get a mortage and buy a home but I feel like I would be stuck somewhere for life paying it off, I see renting a bit like throwing money away as when you leave it wont be yours!!!

Plus it's bare no sofa and fridge freezer!!! Hahaa this month is costing me a fortune!!

/ Cool story!! :D

Is that all you're paying? You can nearly triple that for my outgoings.

Russia? 'colleague'?

You ordered a russian bride didn't you?

Vodafone deal, spend more than £200 on data when in Moscow and you get a free Svetlana

Seriously?? Do you live at Buckingham Palace :D

Yeah its £395 for us both, we both work full time making a little over £2k between us a month, so we have a good chunk of spare cash to save :)

I pay £35 for a 02 contract and get I don't know how many free mins and texts, to spend £395 a month on a bill is crazy!!

I live in Leeds, so up North! So maybe thats why its cheap? A town called Pudsey.

it's not crazy, it's impossible for me to run my business without it

& yes the north is cheap

Yeah I thought it was a lot, but after seeing post on here I guess not!! All the people who pay much more rent, do you guys live down South?

GeX I take it your home is Band A? What kind of home do you have to pay £575PM?

There a are a lot of Town flats in Leeds City Center for that sort of price but I wanted a garden, its the biggest thing I missed since leaving home, having somewhere to sit when its nice and sunny like this week has been perfect :)

Band B, but discounted because my partner is a student.

House a modern 2bed end terrace (line of 4), set back from the road, private car park, decent sized garden. Approx 15mins walk from the city centre :)

We were living in a 1 bed apartment in the city centre which came in at £475 inc secure, underground parking - but we wanted more space and a garden.

Me too a decent sized garden facing the sun was a must for me! My old shared house was a flat with no garden or nothing! I hated it when it was warm and sunny. Nothing like sitting out on your day off when its this nice! :)

319 mortgage
77 council tax
12 tv licence
30 house insurance
55 virgin (50meg, xl tv, standard phone line.. it pays to complain :D)
55 water
129 gas/elec

Gas/elec was 173 for some reason, I rang them today after this thread as it changed a couple of months ago and I forgot about it and they said due to arrears and when i queried which they said "for units youve used".. no **** but from when, was a little too much for him I sensed to I changed it down to what it was before we swapped from eon to swalec (then found out swalec rep had lied, shocker right!?) and switched back and kept it on the same out goings as before.

Probably arrears due to missed payments, after swapping everything into a joint account and her bank standing order being set for the first but never going in till around the 6th for some bizarre reason even though a direct transfer was instant. Anyway we cleared it all off and then the month after we did that, it went right up.

Why was it 129 before? Had anywhere between 4-6 people living here at the time, me+gf, + two other couples (paying rent, all legit of course.. being my house and all and no stipulations in the contract saying to inform blah blah, its legit!)

So now only me and gf live here for probably the past year I'd say, never really thought about it was so used to having so much going out (swalec were charging me 202 at the premium time of my usage, swapped to eon who then set it to 120 but it crept up to 129 eventually.. ill never go with swalec again after those two incidents only went back because they promised 80 a month for everything.. too good to be true eh!)

Worked it out, over the last 4 months since we've been back with eon, we've used on average £12 a month on gas and £70 on electric.

Luckily my online account still has a few older bills the oldest being from may last year saying how much I read my meter at, I took my current reading on electric and gas and worked it out on average from may 10 - sept 11 and electricity works out at 83 a month (thats with working out the first 900 units at 24p and the remaining at 11p, even though back in 2010 i was actually on a lower tariff than that) and gas worked out at around 15 a month.

Something has seriously gone wrong, I'm gunna ring them again tomorrow and hope for someone competent and have them investigate.

I can only think of the one or two months I was with swalec before I switched back that has somehow messed things up.

Sorry for the thread hijack heh... just a warning, make sure you pay attention to whats going on.

I think I've found the culprit.. apparently between July and August I used 4000 kwh of gas, meaning instead of using around £30 I used £130.

Is it even possible for my boiler to have used 4000kwh of gas in a month!? Thats 146 a day (28days) or 6 an hour.. and it was summer and I'm pretty sure the boiler was off.
