New HOME Video

It reminds me a lot of The Sims, and that's proved immensely popular - at least on the PC, not sure how well it went down with console gamers. I found The Sims dull, but I can see why many people like it, so I'm not gonna go out on a limb and say this will be dull.

I suppose you could say that there is an "objective" to playing The Sims whereas Home doesn't have this, but I think Second Life has proven that the whole online virtual community thing is popular even without having set goals to achieve.

At least Sony are trying to be innovative, instead of just implementing an XBL looky-likey, so I think they deserve some credit for that (and it's not often that I say that :))

I like the idea of HOME although I can't see myself using many of the features it has - I'm sure others will though.

I am hoping they bring with it an improved PSN friends system without having to actually go into HOME if you dont want to.

I had to laugh at this bit...
You start off in your room with a nice oceanic view, sit in your chairs, stare at pictures, then head out into the big open square

Wow... Just wow. :|
However, I can look out my real window to see an ocean view, I have plenty of real chairs I could sit in and real pictures I could stare at...
As has been said, this just seems like a lame 3D chatroom that's trying too hard.

Will no doubt sell a lot of consoles though.

I'm not entirely sure it will tbh.

It's not really the sort of thing I can see appealing to the masses.

"Oh man, I gotta get me a PS3. You can sit on virtual chairs and stuff!!!"

I can see there being massive potential for microtransactions within home, though.

Lol the first few seconds of the video show someone sitting down, waiting a bit, then standing up!

**** me this is gonna be huge!

Nah ha ha its funny i guess he dont get let out much. :D

if you're excited by this i'd say you're the one who doesn't get out much :)

walking around a virtual world ala second life on a console...society is in trouble if the masses think this is living.

Gee it was a joke some people :)

Its not so much the walk around talk to people on headsets or messaging ( a bit like second life) Its things like being able to set up Clan rooms so you and your clan can work out strategys, have a general chat, replay game movies to see what your doing wrong etc, then being able as a clan to launch into the game. Or meeting a couple of people you met online and play of few games of pool, Bowling, Chess or whatever else they have while your waiting for others. Its also more of a 3d myspace/Facebook than singlelife to be honest with you being able to show people you photos/ videos etc what many million users of myspace/facebook do every day. Home brings with it the trophy room ( like 360 achievements but a 3d Trophy), gamecard, cross game invites and all these functions are available from the XMB so you dont have to go into Home to use anypart of it. I know Xbox live has these already but im sure if you didnt have some of these things on live you would be excited/happy to get them. Many people talk about the Xbox live community being one of the best things about owning a 360 so why is an extension of this idea a bad thing?

Can't believe people are excited by this, never paid much attention to HOME till I seen that video, which was boring enough never mind actually playing it, can't imagine it will sell consoles, certainly aint made me want to rush out and buy one

Its going to appeal like crazy to females, young'un's and casual gamers though, probably won't appeal so much to members of these forums.

Look at Sims, best selling game of all time? but i'd say 99% of people on here don't play it. Women and kids love it to bits though!

Kaz announced that Home has slipped until at least Spring 2008.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/breaking/home-delayed-until-spring-08-301719.php

Kaz Hirai today announced that Sony Computer Entertainment is delaying the release of the Playstation Home until the spring of 2008. He told reporters that the team wanted to spend more time developing the user interface platform.

Hirai went on to apologize for the delay, insisting that the service must spend more time in development so gamers around the world can experience the game when it is ready.

Yeah no doubt, typical Sony thing to do, use the platforms as bait and then just keep pushing back the release times.
If GT5 comes out with no delays I will eat my hat. (Hat will have to be purchased first)

Not all bad news about home though,
Phil Harrison confirms that, although there is a delay, Home will be seeing an open beta late this year.
GameSpot conducted an interview with Phil Harrison at the Tokyo Game Show this week. In it, he confirmed that Home (although, delayed) will be seeing an open beta in late November/early December. So, no need to fret about the delay, at least, entirely.

"We will still be opening in late November/early December for general beta testing. So, the commercial start of Home will be pushed out later, but you will still get the experience this year," explain Harrison.

We'll keep you updated.

Can't they just forget HOME and add a better form of messaging, a proper friends list and some kind of achievements normally?

I don't know why they are working on it so much, it's not even remotely interesting. 'Next gen' Habbo Hotel in the making.. :/

So whats the problem with that? Habbo Hotel probably has a larger player base than World of Warcraft or any other game for that matter...
