It reminds me a lot of The Sims, and that's proved immensely popular - at least on the PC, not sure how well it went down with console gamers. I found The Sims dull, but I can see why many people like it, so I'm not gonna go out on a limb and say this will be dull.
I suppose you could say that there is an "objective" to playing The Sims whereas Home doesn't have this, but I think Second Life has proven that the whole online virtual community thing is popular even without having set goals to achieve.
At least Sony are trying to be innovative, instead of just implementing an XBL looky-likey, so I think they deserve some credit for that (and it's not often that I say that
