New hotmail rolled out

People still use Hotmail, what is it, 2002 or something?

It's a free email service that I can use pretty much anywhere in the World and I'm used to it, there's no real reason to change.

However I'm not particularly fond of the new design, it's a bit more cluttered than before and for some peculiar reason it doesn't seem to want to let me log out about half the time. It may be that there are a few teething problems that can be ironed out but it would be a shame if they changed when the current state is a retrograde step.

First the BBC, and now Hotmail?!11?!11! where will it all end... :p

I suppose it will annoy me when I have an email to read, but hotmail has been going all 'social networking linking' for a while now.
Oh well, I guess I managed to avoid crapbook for long enough that it was inevitable that at some point M$ would think social networks are a good idea... like that damn paperclip guy, always asking me if I want to do this, or do that. Well if I wanted to, I wouldn't need a handy hint on how to check in/out with new friends, I'd pick up the telephone or go and see them face to face, you know, in a real social meeting place, like the pub.

Just found a feature that I do like...

Have they essentially given everyone with a hotmail account Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote?

Along the top menu, to the right of the Windows logo is "Office" If you hover over this, then you can create new documents in the above applications.

This wasn't there before was it?

Very clever idea none the less.

People still use hotmail?

Gmail is the way forward.

Yes.. so we've heard.. get over it

I don't see what the problem is with Hotmail?

I actually find Gmail a little annoying to use for email, and the only reason I log into my gmail account is for the chat features whilst at work as some friends cannot install MSN at their work.

Also i've noticed, which is really annoying me is the delete button moves, it's in one place for th inbox but shifts to the left when you'r reading a message.

I hate it with a passion.

I have linked accounts, and you can't actually see on the screen, which account you are logged into.

the font looks rubbish, as well as how the inbox has been seperated from the other folders. I keep looking in the wrong place for it.

Also now when i empty my junk folder, they move to the delete folder, but before the change they used to delete when i emptied the junk folder.

Unless they change it back, i might have to change all my various accounts to gmail.

Wow, you've got a very clean inbox! (Did you know you can recieve emails from other e-mail accounts?)
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

It's clean because I keep it clean and yes ofcause i do , how long has this account been open

You don't have junk here (hooray!)—Microsoft SmartScreen is working to keep it out of your inbox, too.

Is it? I delete junk from this folder :rolleyes:

You can use the Delete button to get rid of messages you don't want

No **** it's because I'VE been using it

I made a Gmail acount only for GOogle Wave use and within a few days I was getting fake Facebook spam. I never got on with the UI for it either, and I prefer Folders to Tags for email.

Hotmail is still my main account due to its age but spam on it is terrible. 5 or 6 a day, always the same stuff but yet no sign of it being blocked.

MobileMe is the only email account I have where I've had no spam.

Sweep seems useful for housekeeping although the main advantages for me so far has been the built in access to Office Web Apps (open up a built in, free, browser based version of Word, Excel etc from any doc attached to a mail inside your mailbox).

The way it no longer sends photos direct to people but instead hosts them on Skydrive whilst still displayed in the mail seems to work well as well, get's around trying to send huge emails with photos attached.

I've finally had it rolled out to me and I do quite like it. Could never really get on with GMail for some reason but always liked Hotmail.
