New iMacs, accessories

You need to cut the adhesive strips around the display and pull the display forward to remove cables and then screen.
I have done this on a few 27" machines and it was easier than the old style iMacs. Just make sure you use a genuine tape kit to put the screen back on, they are readily available

So which is it? :p

I just asked in live chat and,

But if they can do it in store, presumably you could do it at home if you were feeling brave... not sure what needs to be done, but I guess they've made it stupidly inaccessible and you'd need to take the screen off or something! She couldn't tell me how much they'd charge.

I hope the new trackpad is a genuinely good step up. I'd been looking at iMacs recently and you could choose between a mouse or a trackpad, with either included in the price... but now if you choose a trackpad it's £44 more (and separately it's £109 vs £65 for the Magic Mouse 2).

According to what I've read The New 4K 21.5" iMac RAM IS NOT USER UPGRADABLE as the RAM is soldered to the motherboard.

The New 5K 27" iMac RAM IS USER UPGRADABLE to a Maximum of 64GB RAM.

Presumably you can't use the device when it's charging, so to prevent people trying they put the charging port on the bottom.

Not sure why you wouldn't be able to use it whilst it's being charged - but even so I would hate to tilt my mouse on it's side every time to plug it in for an hour.

"Currently, OWC offers memory kits compatible with Apple's new 5K iMac starting at 8GB for $68.00, 16GB for $134.00 and 32GB for $264.00.

On a related note, OWC tore down Apple's new 21.5-inch iMac with 4K Retina display to find the computer comes with soldered RAM, meaning after purchase memory upgrades are impossible. The company suggests customers get as much RAM as possible from the factory."

So, as above, the 5K model can still be done by user, but it's soldered on the new 4K version, which is what I meant when I said "not the new one" :)

I'll have one of those new trackpads but I really wish they'd do a full size wireless keyboard. I use the numeric keypad a lot and am not prepared to have a keyboard without one.

I'm the same with keyboards, and I think that the trackpad is the best accessory Apple make and considered picking one of the new ones up for use with my laptop... until I saw how much they'd gone up in price :( I could have sworn that they used to be more like £50. £110 seems like far too much even for Apple.

I just ended up grabbing myself a Logitech K750 Mac edition, because of this very reason.

Just ordering one of the new 5k iMacs, do they come with the new keyboard and mouse?

EDIT - Question answered just as I posted :p

Is it even still possible to get these? I spent ages looking for one a while ago and literally couldn't find one anywhere.

Jelly. I'm eternally indecisive as far as getting a 5K iMac or getting a rMBP + monitor; the latter would be more ideal as I could take it to work etc but this also means waiting for Thunderbolt 3 and an actual 5K Thunderbolt display. Maybe I should just become wealthy then I can have a 5K iMac AND a rMBP...

I'm quite liking this machine. Quite spanky.

Jesus a machine with a 5,400RPM HDD, surely it most cost more then 7200RPM disks now since no one sells them anymore. Is this maybe too appeal to hipster with vintage hardware.
