New Impreza! Your thoughts?

Pig ugly, but probably manages to re-arrange your face with acceleration figures comparable to an F16. Not a car to love, certainly one to respect.

Doubtful it will be that fast with that power to weight ratio, come to cyprus and take a spin in my 400bhp/tonne lotus 7 rep...

Now that will re-arrange your face, specially as it dont have a windscreen

:D

But your right it sure is ugly, lancer evo is far nicer on the eye, should be getting mine in a few weeks

:D

I do agree with Merlin in that they need more power. Each shape Scoob as put on more and more weight, but just hasn't been given enough power to compensate.

The WRX should have 280ps or 300ps with PPP, and the STI should have 320ps, 350 with PPP.

Spot on, unless I had the promise of the PPP, I doubt I would have bought mine. They really need to up the ante to keep up with the top end Evo's.

188bhp per tonne for £27,000?

No thanks.

Agreed. Same with the 350z, even a lower bhp per tonne than the scoob, pov spec at £25,500, yet some get all juiced up at the thought.

From what I have read the 06 STi is not selling to well, seems a lot of people are probably waiting for what Prodrive can offer.

Although not a huge fan of the MY06, I'd love a new Type 25 and bugger what it looks like. I never bought my scoob on looks anyway...who would? :D

I quite like it , wasn't fussed with the pics but looks nice in real life , interior is hugely improved

I'm still waiting for a test drive from Holdcroft, but is there really that much of a difference between the MY05 STi and the MY06 STi interior?

Haven't been inside one I just had a look through the window and it certainly looked a big improvement on the 03/04 cars (can't remember what the 05 interior was like ) though without getting it is is impossible to judge the quality of the materials

As you say it certainly is not selling well , probably a combination of high prices , too many new models and shocking depreciation

Also International motors are in the process of unloading 300 05 STi's which they have pre registered , these are to go out at £21,000 ( before you haggle with dealers ) , until these have gone the 06 will continue to struggle

It definatly looks better then the new Evo TBH :)

I wonder if they will ever put the 6 pot boxer that the tribecca uses in it :D

Note the smilie. I think he was joking.

It is reminiscent of the Leon but even though it is quite ugly its nowhere near as ugly as the Seat.

Think I prefer the Evo 9gt over any of the new scooby range.

If I was buying a new Evo or Scoob then for me ease of tunning would come into it.

Evo 9 GT £23k
Ecotek Remap £600
Boost controller £300

add a exhaust to that and there you go around 400bhp/400lbft

Not sure anything in the subaru camp can compare at the moment.

Evo 8 FQ400 performance for a lot less(with waaaaay less lag) :D

Just had a test drive in one of these.

Ride - perfect
Hanlding - perfect
Noise - crap
Looks - better in the flesh

Performance - Well, personally I thought it was either quicker, or as quick as a blob eye with PPP. I know the bhp and weight figures dont support this - but it felt easily as quick, maybe revised gear ratios.

It pulled like a god damn train from a fraction above tickover to about 6,000rpm, unfortunately though > 6,000rpm the torque absolutely vanishes into thin air, I mean nothing - totally hopeless. Funny cos the rev counter is set up to suggest there's life up to 8,000rpm. That's just not the case, 6k + the car has an asthema attack.

Thats the CAT for you mate. I had EXACTLY the same on the GTI-R, it just died compleatly from 5.5-6k
Get that removed and the difference is extraordinary, on the R you can suddenly rev up to 8k, the power is much smoother and quicker over 6k and you gain around 30lbs torque!!

Whats the CAT and if it does such a terrible thing whats the point of it?

Yeah, think you're right. There's three cats too - downpipe, uppipe and mid section. The exhausts on all stock scoobs are very restrictive, back box alone would unleash 7 - 8 bhp.

With the 2.5 turbo scoob yesterday I video'd the revs as I booted it through 2nd and a bit of 3rd to 80mph.

I reckon the scoob took around about 5 - 5.5 seconds to get from 40mph to 80mph through the gears. I've looked at my old DC5 phone vid and it's practically the same - 5 seconds to 5.5.

The scoob though felt twice as quick, because of the torque, but it wasn't. How the hell does that work - torque makes cars "feel" quick.

So what is a CAT? I keep getting images of a fluffy cat shuved in the engine bay :p

It's a honeycombed section in the exhaust there to reduce emmissions and supposedly to stop the hole in the o-zone getting bigger.

It slows the exit of exhaust gasses, and therefore chokes the engine. It'll rob a car of anything between 2% and 10% of power.
