New Insurance Groups

18% premiums rise :( I hope thats a worst case scenario prediction.

I wish it was like Australia where their Road Tax covers 3rd party insurance cover (I think its Aus). It's also where young lads can afford to run around in rapid jap classics.

Oh dear :(

Edit: my car on the current classification is group 14, goes up to group 29. In a way it may work well, but i cant see that happening!

this puts my in group 34 with my mondeo st200

Same as mine, group 34, with a vw golf mk5 gti.. It's currently a group 17, so with a 2 1/2 times the group it *might* turn out to be a bit cheaper.

Interesting, current group 14 and was looking at a change to a group 20 car, getting fantastic quotes at the moment, so will a group 20 car go right up to group 50? :(

current 15/20 new 30/50

15 divided by 20 times 50 = 37.5 so I 'should' be paying less that I am currently. However I can's see insurance being much less that £220 pa on a convertible sports car

Wouldn't have thought so, i think this is to seperate the ferraris of the world from some of the other group 20 cars that probably wouldn't seem quite as mental.

Edit; for example, an alfa romeo spider lusso 3.2l V6, is of course group 20.

Under the new classification, its group 39.

However, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS Feels at home in its new insurance group, 50.

Nope, I just tried on the abi site with a BMW M3 and that goes from group 20 on the old system to group 42 on the new.

Theres more groups therefore it'll be more accurate, simple :)

Multiply your current group by 2.5 and if your new grouping is lower than this then you're technically "better off".

Although how much notice do insurance companies pay to these lists? I thought they didn't at all really.

hmm, my 2000 BMW 323Ci goes from group 15 to group 31E, anybody able to tell how that compares with the original group?

NS

Your equivlent group in the new system is 37.5 therefore it's effectively in a "lower" group than before. I'm dubious as to how much difference these are going to make though...

Mine doesn't even appear to be listed under the new system. It's not as if insurance group has any real meaning on cars as old as mine anyway.
