New kitteh moving in - gimme your top tips!

prepare for many shredded toilet rolls, tipped clothes horses, basically anything they can climb on and tip up they will.

Right now mine are digging the carrotts up in the backg arden.

Poppy's on Hill's Sensitive Skin, supplemented with some Applaws every other day which isn't ideal - we had her on a food elimination diet to try and figure out her allergy but we didn't manage to get to the bottom of it and it was just too expensive. The Hill's is obviously hypoallergenic (though the Applaws isn't) but it's much better for her than feeding her any old food and she's on a steroid as well to keep her skin itch-free.

She's come a long way since she was really bad though.

I'm with Argos Pet Insurance (seems weird I know), they've been really good, not too expensive, and have paid out for Poppy's various tests/her eye operation no problems.

The vets of course like to push PetPlan, but my parents had problems with them previously when they disputed a claim and then when our dog got over 8, the premium doubled overnight, so I didn't think they were worth the extra money. They are more expensive.

But they do have the advantage that most vets will deal with PetPlan directly, so you don't have to fork out and then get the money back from the insurance company, they pay them directly. Good if you don't have the money lying around to use in an emergency.

Cats are funny. :D

Going to the vets on Friday though for a check and her first jabs, possibly a micro chip. Bet she wont like that.

You could be quite surprised. All three of ours had their jabs and chips done at the same time and none of them batted an eyelid.

Spock doesn't even cry when he's in the carrier on the way to the vets. The other two cry like crazy though :(

Yep, you never know. I don't think she will mind the carrier too much because I've left it out and she sits in it sometimes and plays with the towel in it.

BTW, how much is a microchip? I was thinking of getting one of the chip controlled cat flaps when she starts going outside.

At our vets, microchip was £15. Or you could get one for £25 and when the vet scans the chip it also automatically tells them the cat's temperature.

They told us the £25 one was a ridiculous idea as using a thermometer only takes 2 minutes, and just go for the cheaper one.

Mine weren't fussed about their jabs either, both had their microchip done at the same time they got neutered.

On their first check-up, they played with the vet's stethoscope as he dangled it above them. He said, "it's actually quite a good test, because it checks their back strength and that their balance is OK. But mostly it's just cute." He then proceeded to have a big cuddle with them, haha.

Hope she gets on OK tomorrow :)

No idea, ours came as part of the deal when we got our three from Cats Protection. its about the size of a grain of rice though I know that :)

Coolio, thanks.

I think we need to get one of those enclosed litter trays, she keeps kicking catsan all over the kitchen floor.

Also, Mrs W reckons Florence has turned me into a big softy. Something that I flattly refuse to neither confirm nor deny.................

Ours don't like the flap on the enclosed trays so I take them off. They still get a bit of litter outside the tray but nowhere near as much.

And its difficult not to get a bit soppy when you have a kitten around :D

She's using the catsan stuff no problem, and it seems easier for us to deal with (read us as Mrs W!). Wondering if the cheaper stuff is any good really. For 3 quid a bag its worth a shot, as long as we dont end up with a carpet cleaning bill! :p

Are you using a litter tray with a hood? Also we have found Co-op's own non clumping litter to be better and cheaper than Catsan's version.
