New kitteh moving in - gimme your top tips!

She's using the catsan stuff no problem, and it seems easier for us to deal with (read us as Mrs W!). Wondering if the cheaper stuff is any good really. For 3 quid a bag its worth a shot, as long as we dont end up with a carpet cleaning bill! :p

We use Chick Crumbs. You can get it from quite few places online or out there in the real world. Ours costs use about £8 for a 20kg bag which lasts 3 cats a month.

It's the same as Worlds Best if you can find a video of it. Essentially when it comes into contact with water it forms a lump which you can scoop out just like you would number 2s. Cheap as chips and does the job perfectly.

You said number 2s...........hehehe :D

Thanks for all the advice, we really appreciate it. (including Florence :))

No, but as I said earlier i think we should get one and see if she'll use it.
Sorry didn't see, most of the plastic hooded ones have a little air vent at the top with a little compartment that opens and closes if that makes any sense. On our one we put those car fresheners (magic trees) in there to help kill the odour.

That's what I use.
Hands down the best cat litter I have come across.

You could also try out Cats Best OkoPlus Cat Litter.

If it doesn't eat it's food jesus christ bin it or move it outside. I had a disgusting encounter earlier. Parents are away and I have to feed cats. One of the cats had pushed some food behinds it's plate a day or 2 ago. Today I move the plate and it's covered in maggots. Jesus I was nearly sick. Fly sprayed the **** out of them and bleach and water all over the ****s. Still feeling pretty bad about it now lol.

No I'm 16.. I don't like cats, I just have to feed them so I'll admit I spend a bare minimum amount of effort when it comes to feeding cleaning etc. Perhaps I should have spent a bit more. :(

God don't mention that word. Didn't think I was squeemish or whatever but I struggled to look at them..

Sorry I don't get how that means you don't have to be responsible? The cats need to eat the same as you do. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they don't deserve a decent standard of care whilst your parents are away.

Whats that like for nasty odours?

As long as the cat covers its faeces, there is no odour (I use a covered litter tray).

If the cat does not cover its faeces, then there is odour.

What cat owners should do is order a packet of various cat litters. Experiment. And then go long term with the one they (and their cats) like best.

What I do is use Chick Crumb feed is my base layer and then I put a top layer of Oko Plus.

Chick crumb is more heavier/denser and less powdery. Oko plus is very light and powdery. The combination of the 2 litters has great moisture absorbing qualities. The quicker you can absorb moisture, the quicker any smells will dissipate.

Just a quick note about changing litters. Don't just swap from one litter to another in one go. They don't often like it!

Instead, use your current litter and add in say 25% of the new one. gradually increase the new one over a few days and they'll be much happier.

When we first got ours and changed it all in one go we had crap everywhere lol. since learned not to make THAT mistake again.

Haha, yeah I thought about doing that.

Everything went OK at the vets today. She winged a bit in the carrier but didn't flinch at the jab. The vet did say she's a bit under weight though and gave her a worming tablet. It could just be because she was kind of the runt of the litter and her mum was pretty slim IIRC. When we got home she was in nutter mode straight away! :D
