New member, First build! What are your thoughts?

The initial responses in this thread were pointing towards a 256GB SSD which cost over £300

If you only intend on getting a 64GB SSD then I would suggest you get Intel Smart Response for sure

I have never said 256GB!! My original thought was 32GB but I was advised to get the 60GB one.

I think I'm going to get the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 now which has smart response.

If you got a 60GB one this will be enough for windows and a few programs. I'd do that :)
If you were gunna get a 32GB one, then I'd suggest ISR (it can work with upto 60GB I believe, anything smaller is fine too).

ah sorry there are two SSD size posts I am subsribed too

windows will consume a 64gb SSD by itself very quickly, so yeah go with ISR if you want your most used game(s) to occupy the SSD

I haven't tried ISR myself yet, my SSD is 128GB so I would end up with a 64GB partition of unused SSD space which is kinda useless

Really? I was told that 64GB would be more than enough for the OS and a few programmes.

More expensive RAM is slightly faster etc... but on sandybridge systems it's been show that over 1600Mhz makes very little difference.

Even if they are both advertised at the same speed/frequency?

I want 16GB btw.

Just thought I'd let you know, I tested my PSU today and got these results 12.0, 5.1, 3.3 which I'm happy with :)

So as well as the frequency you have timings, e.g.
CAS Latency: 9-9-9-27

The lower the better, but something like "CAS Latency: 9-9-9-27" is fine, so I'd get that kingston set tbh.

As much as I want to use OCUK (just because this forum and it's members are very helpful) I have to say I have found the Corsair RAM cheaper somewhere else (£11 cheaper) which is strange, because everything else OCUK seem to be the best bet for price.

Yeah, that's including shipping, but then I don't get free shipping with OCUK yet so I would have to add another £8 to that £74! So the Corsair I've seen is £19 cheaper!

Right! Ive been away for a while and need to get back into building this thing!! I'm thinking about buying the motherboard next week but not sure if it's a wise move! Would it be better to buy the RAM or maybe the HDD. I've seen a very good deal on a 2TB WD green but need to decide fast if I'm going for it or not! I think I'm going to have to take a few risks and buy something!!

If you're going for an SSD as a boot drive, then getting a 2TB is a good idea for storage and is something you could buy whenever if its a good price.

Similiarly if you see a good deal on RAM, that is something unlikely to change and there are usually decent offers on.
