Hi,

Having just invested in a new build from OcUK and I'm looking to upgrade my current aging monitors.

GPU Spec: -

Asus GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Dual OC 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card
Current monitors: -

Samsung SyncMaster B2430
BenQ GL2450

Usage is for general PC usage by my Dad and then gaming from time to time by myself. Ideally would like to remain with a dual monitor setup whilst at the same time increasing from 24" to 27", although very likely to upgrade a monitor one at a time, sticking to matching ones when I do, only to aid with financing. Budget wise having had a very brief look around I'm guessing £300 mark, per monitor, should get me a markable improvement to what I currently have.

Any thoughts, recommendations and general advice much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Following recommendations in another thread I've narrowed my choices down to the following: -

Although the above has the negative of being BGR subpixel layout which can result in that text appears somewhat blurry with noticeable red and blue subpixel fringing.

I already find that the on screen text in Windows and Word etc. not as sharp as I'm expecting and I'm worried that this would only add to this problem. It's strange as I only really notice this on the lighter back grounds, especially in Word, and much less so on darker ones e.g. OcUK Forum blue.

This then lead me to...

But as was kindly pointed out to me by @mickyflinn lesser pixel density.

Which brought me to my final find...

This appears to tick all boxes and has the offering of G-Sync as well, which the original Gigabyte 27" didn't.

@mickyflinn suggested tagging @EsaT due to his knowledge of monitors, hope you don't mind that I have @EsaT and would very much appreciate your thoughts on the Acer Nitro 27.

Should anyone else have any thoughts, recommendations or advice on a suitable 27" replacement for my aging 24" ones, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers.

That Acer seems decent.
And it avoids both problematic (and lame) panel upside down BGR subpixel layout and 15+ years old bad contrast of LG's 27" 2560x1440 Nano-IPS.

For budget option I can recommend this Phillips monitor. At first I wasn't impressed with it when I connected it to the hdmi port on my laptop, but now I've completed my pc build and connected it to that, it turned out the hdmi port on my 11 year old laptop is shoddy.

I'm actually quite impressed with the monitor for a va panel the viewing angle is really good, the blacks are quite dark for an led backlit panel (blacks will be darker on va panel than an IPS)

When doing word and Excel work and web surfing the text is very clear, and when using cricut design space software the images and graphics and text writing is very nice and clear .

I'm surprised there isn't any major publication reviews for this monitor.

Personally I can't see the point in spending any more without going for oled.

P.s I also like the fact that it's not a curved screen.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I saw and read that review however I then noticed that it was in fact for a different model to the one available from OcUK. They only have the VG272UVbmiipx listed as opposed to the XV272U KVbmiiprzx and when I looked I couldn't find it available anywhere.

Cheers for the suggestion and your feed back on it, I'll have a look.

You can get cheap 60 Hz IPS 4k panels for under £200 now. Perfect for a secondary monitor as the high pixel density improves the text quality. I just bought a Lenovo L28u-35. It even has Freesync.

Does look a decent option .
:):D

Indeed it does, although I'm actually more tempted by this model having read the review and comparing the two: -

The fact that the stand on the Acer Nitro 27" VG272UV doesn't allow for height adjustment is a negative, where by the Acer Nitro XV272U does.

Unfortunately OcUK don't list or stock it, but it's available from the manufacturers site.

Does look a better option but how much is the price difference between the 2 ?

Cool, let's us know your thoughts and would love to see a pic of the pc and monitor if possible.

Well, one thing I will say for the new monitor is how much more real estate there is, which I truly love! I didn't realise how thin/narrow a bezel it had until the unboxing.

Text is certainly much clearer from my previous monitor, Samsung SyncMaster B2430, which must be at least 10 years old.

The only niggle I have with the Acer is the positioning of the power button. It's tucked away at the back of the case on the right hand side, which is a bit of a faff trying to locate and then press without having to touch the screen itself to allow you to apply enough pressure. It would be much better placed IMO on the underneath of the case, still on the right hand side if needed, it would just be more convenient and allow more you to apply more leverage upon pressing.

That aside, I'm very happy with the purchase. :)

As requested @mickyflinn below are some shots, which don't do either justice, of it alongside my BenQ GL2450 and a couple of the recently purchased PC from OcUK.

@izzop .

Nice set up, the cooler fits well in the case and works astetcally overall , one thing you may want to add in the future is a rear exhaust fan but there's plenty of ventilation.

Have you tried a game on your new monitor ?
