New Nvidia card: Codename "GF100"

is that the conference over? or do you think we'll hear more about their cards?

trying to decide whether to hold off buying a next gen card till nvidia release theres or not.

thing is this gpgpu is capable of massive throughput by the looks of it, a very powerfull computing engine with up to 8x the double precision floating point performance over GT200, now of course that dosnt mean 8x the performance in terms of games, but games are just a part of what this is aimed at. and after all, all that gaming is lots of calculations and this thing looks like its gong to be a killer at it.


one thing i did notice in the white paper was a mention of upto 512 cuda cores, so from that that i deduce that the lesser varriants will have less cores, rather than the same just clocked lower.
 
Think I will be sticking with ATI. HDMI, Eyefinity and cheaper for a bit performance and the core isn't massive so less likely to break.

The money will be going on 24" monitors instead.
 
No gaming benchmarks does anyone else get the feeling that this is not gonna be as fast in games as it is at crunching numbers.

Yeah, most shaders and stuff are done in single precision because of the huge drop in performance when doing stuff in double precision (actually I don't think SM3 cards even support double precision). In terms of single precision it's going to be more like 2-3x the performance (of GT200). Even then that doesn't tell us anything about the rendering backends, texture units, etc.
 
Not sure you can compare this to AMD's fusion or intel's version of fusion. You can't run windows os or any os on this for that matter, not from the looks of it.

Well, you won't be running windows on intel's larrabee either. It's very much a GPU with enhanced control logic, just like this beast seems to be.
 
I thought larrabee and the thing where intel puts a gpu and cpu together were two separate things.

Ah, right. I didn't realise that intel were working on a combined GPU-CPU silicon right now. If so, then it will definitely be separate from larrabee, which is more of a pseudo-GPU. Got any links out of interest?

i suppose if you wanted to you could write an opererating system to run on it seeing as it provides full support for the C++ programing language as well as support for C, fortran, openCL and direct compute.
 

Oh, clarkdale. That's more of a die-shrink of nehalem. It has some on-chip graphics capabilities, but nothing on the scale of a modern GPU. It's designed to replace motherboard onboard graphics, rather than any high-end GPUs for rendering or general prupose computing. AMD's fusion should be more of a "true" GPU-CPU combination as I understand it.
 
The gt300 will be fast and probably quicker than 5870. People that are expecting 295 x2 performance are living in fantasy land. Expect per=285 sli and £500 price tag....out

Yea and it'll have 365 pins on the pcb, a pink logo near the heatsink, and some fancy stickers on the cover all for £543.40

Think that theres only one person in fantasy land tbh
